You know the more I think about it, it's this lack of empathy that keeps screwing up our world.

This is the spot-on comment of the week.

As for Barkley - he strikes me as a libertarian type; I'd imagine his response was something to the effect of "Hardaway's free to spout off like an idiot of he wants; Stern is free to not do business with him and we the public are free to ostracize him for his idiocy."

Sadly, I think it is Hardaway who will be seen as an "American hero", "going against the grain" of political correctness, by a large chunk of the NBA's target demographic.

No, I disagree.  It that were true David Stern & Mark Cuban wouldn't be saying what they are saying.  Stern said essentially the league didn't want to have anything further to do with Hardaway and cancelled his invitation to attend the All-Star game in Vegas. And look how quickly Hardaway had to apologize.

I loved John A.'s choice of words describing Timmy H. "It is ridiculous, absurd, petty, bigoted and shows a lack of empathy that is gargantuan & unfathomable."

You know the more I think about it, it's this lack of empathy that keeps screwing up our world.

Cuban and Stern are not the typical hoops fan. They're enlightened educated men.  Hardaway said he was sorry, because he had no choice -- it's one of those "I'm sorry I said it" apologies assholes are famous for.  He's sorry he said it because the now the league is on his (no pun intended) ass.  He hasn't actually learned anything, I'll wager.

I'm talking about the coveted "young urban male" demo -- they think like Hardaway.

Barkley on PTI said, "I know a lot of gay people, I have a lot of gay friends.  I have played with two or three gay guys.  That's their business. You know what frustrates me, is all the reporters saying that a guy can't come out when he's playing, that he'd be ostracized from the team.  Hey, we're not fools.  I have played with two or three gay guys.  It doesn't matter."

Barkley rocks.

Too bad about Hardaway, though.  I liked the guy -- a good player, generally positive guy.  But now...

As we look towards baseball season, I'm just catching up with the fact that Mark Mulder (a) re-signed with the Cards (a 2-year deal) and (b) got married in December    Reportedly, the Giants were one of the teams pursuing him.

Apparently Teh Gheys were another.

apparently this story is about 10 days old, but I just saw it on Olbermann and had to track it down:

Quote
VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Who's the wealthiest Dodger?
Jason Schmidt? Jeff Kent? Frank McCourt?

It could be Matt White.

Who?

White is a 29-year-old left-handed journeyman pitcher in camp on a Minor League contract who's pitched a total of 9 2/3 Major League innings in nine professional seasons and he's sitting on a gold mine.

Actually, it's a rock quarry.

Four years ago, White bought a 50-acre piece of property in Massachusetts from his ailing Aunt Josephine, who was going into a nursing home. He planned to build a house on the property, but discovered it to be absolutely covered with rock. A geologist determined the property was loaded with mica schist, a slate-like shiny metamorphic stone used for patio decks and other construction.

"I never built the house and instead started selling the rock," said White, whose father runs the business. "It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The geologist said I've got 24 million tons of it and it sells for $100 a ton."

So, according to White's math, he's sitting on a $2.4 billion mountain of rock. That's billion, with a "B." The property cost him $50,000.

No idea -- there's an ABC logo in the bottom of the screen, maybe he did it on Jimmy Kimmel?  I can't imagine anywhere else on ABC that it could've aired.

LOL!  Actually, I think influks.com is technically a gay site, so maybe that's not so surprising.  (When I worked at UBH, their filters blocked Outsports!)
