There is no way he's not juicing. I would LOVE for him to get nailed.

There was a rumor floating around the web that the current "retirement" was a 50-game suspension on the hush-hush.  I don't subscribe to that myself -- isn't half the point of a suspension the public-shaming aspect? -- but I don't mind gossiping it here.

And bless you for doing so!  Of course, they also said that about Bonds' lost season last year -- that baseball was allowing him to "get clean".

Congratulations to Barry Zito for his 1,000th career strikeout tonight.

ETA: oh, and the A's won, too, beating the Twins 4-0 -- in less than 2 hours!

I was really holding out for him to rejoin the Red Sox, just to see what all the New Englanders who hated him when he wound up on the Yankees would say.  He's gonna have a much harder time getting to the World Series again on this year's Astros team than this year's Bosox.

And of course I'd rather the Cardinals didn't have to worry about him being in their division.

Yay!  Now he only needs 4715 more to surpass Nolan Ryan!

LOL!

There was a nice bit on the sfgate "A's Blog" by Susan Slusser this week, about how all those "flaky Zito" stories were overblown because they made for good copy.  As she (more or less) put it, "it's not like he's the only surfer/guitar player/weird dresser in that clubhouse!"

One of my favorite things about watching baseball at the gym is seeing the sometimes hilarious misspellings on the closed-captions. Mike Krukow's famed catchphrase, "grab some pine, meat!" has often been written as "grab some pie and meat", for example. And last year Edgardo Alfonso's first name was repeatedly spelled "guard dough".

This afternoon on the A's game, Marco Scutaro was identified by the closed-captioner as "Nachos Scutaros". Somebody call Chevy's!

Good night for BOTH home teams (for a change): A's beat Seattle 7-2, and the Giants beat the D'Backs 11-4 and see a couple milestones: Steve Finley becomes the 6th member of the 300/300 Club while Barry hits number 717.

Noticed last night that Jamie Moyer was pitching for the Mariners and Jamey Wright for the Giants; that means a Jamie vs. Jamey matchup when SF plays Seattle on Sunday.

basketball and hockey too... and America yawns.  THREE TIMES as many people watched Pepper Dennis on the WB last week as watched the Stanley Cup finals on NBC!
