This is a straight AP wire story, but I think the author has been reading The Onion just a bit lately.

GM Breaks Window as Johnson Breaks Goal Line

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Before he could celebrate Kansas City's dramatic victory over Oakland on Sunday, Carl Peterson had to remove slivers of glass from his face, hair and clothing.

When Larry Johnson went vaulting into the end zone on the final play, the Chiefs' president and general manager punched the window in his private suite so hard it shattered.

Nobody was hurt except the Raiders.

Chris Carpenter* wins the Cy Young, the only Cards pitcher besides Gibson to ever do so.

On the other hand, more Cardinals have won the MVP than any other team** & maybe Pujols will finally get his due.

*if the Blue Jays staff from his days with the team were reunited they'd have 4 Cy Young winners: Carp, Hentgen, Clemens & Halliday.

**The Yankees have accounted for more awards, but typical New Yorkers, they've had several greedy players who won multiple times.  The only greedy St. Louisan was Stan The Man.

Well, this is pretty big news, considering it's the baseball off-season:

The A's have signed Esteban Loaisa to a 3-year deal.  Are Zito's days as an Athletic numbered?

In a mild surprise, Paul Konerko has re-upped with the White Sox. (Their acquisition of Thome had led many to suspect they'd pass on Paul K.)

Fine, keep him in the AL. Lord knows the Giants weren't going after him.
Let's get right to it.

I don't know why people were so surprised; it makes far more sense for Thome to be a DH at this point in his health.

And the thought of Aaron Rowand in a Phillies uni is already making me lick my lips.

Doubt it. I'm betting he ends up in Boston. Anywhere but LA.

Hey Mark, by now you've heard:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/12/12/SPGNBG6NBQ1.DTL

A Giant Card!

I figured that was gonna happen the first time I heard about it several months ago.  It's a good fit all the way around, and if anyone can help prolong Morris' career it's Matheny.  That being said, I think the Giants are no way going to get 3 yrs/$27 million worth of value out of Morris.  I just think his best years are fully behind him, tho' he's been one of my favorite Cardinals for years.  He won't suck (imho) but he is overpriced.

Mr. Bradley wanted to get away from Jeff Kent. Can you blame him?
