I'm going to a taping of Stephen A. Smith's "Quite Frankly" this afternoon.  Topic is gays in sports -- and this was arranged well before Swoopes's coming-out.  Should be interesting.

Topic aside, I wouldn't watch Stephen A. Smith if you put a gun to my head.  Quite frankly, he's a blowhard.

A blowhard doing a show about gays in sports... naw, that joke's too easy.

But THIS JUST IN: Mr Sulu's gay!!!

suspicious white powder
« Reply #166 on: October 27, 2005, 10:52:22 PM »
Special News  Release:

The San  Francisco 49ers' football practice  was delayed nearly two hours yesterday morning after a player reported finding  an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field.

The head coach immediately suspended  practice while police and federal agents were called to investigate.   After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white  substance unknown to the players was the goal  line.

Practice was resumed today after special  agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance  again.

The entire Voice copy editing and fact checking departments are laughing out loud at that.  Well done, whoever came up with that.

Niners sign Jesse The Batchelor as QB...

Bad news for Cody "the Wicked" Pickett. (Yes, Chris Berman has already called him that. Maybe Cody "If you Pickett it'll never heal" would be more appropriate.)

This is just too unbelievable of a story.  Panthers Cheerleaders Arrested after Sex at Bar (and yes that means with each other)

Brief synopsis here: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5059164

For some fan commentary go here: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/2005/11/06/extra-points/3170/#comments

For a clip of the TV news report, go here: http://www.wcnc.com/perl/common/video/wmPlayer.pl?title=www.wcnc.com/1107-rugg.wmv

For the Panthers Cheeleader Roster, go here: http://www.panthers.com/cheerleaders/roster.jsp
(but let me know if you actually get a picture to load, I haven't had any success.  Their server must be swamped beyond all imagining.)

Thanks for, urrrr, filling in the blanks there, guys. That Panthers cheerleader page appears to have been taken down & replaced by the team logo.
Let's get right to it.

Awards, we got 'em:  As you know by now, A's reliever Houston Street won the AL Rookie of the Year honor yesterday. And The Angels' Bartolo Colon just got the AL Cy Young.

The visting Brits take on american sports...

Then there are the oddball diversions Americans call sports. They didn't impress.

"We caught one of your football games yesterday with the 49ers," said Nick Watt, who covers the royals in England for ABC News. "It was a little confusing. They play for five seconds, and then have a little rest."

"And they wear pads, like little girls," Larcombe added. "I'd dare say we don't do that in rugby."

Ever the polite Englishmen, though, the two did find something to recommend about American football.

"The hot dogs were good," said Watt.

"And I'm sure it was nice for you to sit and drink 7.5 gallons of beer, wasn't it?" Larcombe chipped in.
