wow, he also played Paul Simon, "Peace Like a River". Gaz, you might wanna catch the replay on this one tonite if you can.

Man, I wish I could've - but I just got home after yet another long and eventful day.  Some fun to be had, though.  Tonight I met Franke (as in, of the Knockouts): He's the manager of a very Santana-like Latin-rock band called de Sol that I went to see tonight at the Mercury Lounge.  (How Santana-like?  When advised that they only had five minutes left to play, instead of jumping into their current single, "Karma," they closed with a cover of "Oye Como Va."  Fun for the crowd, but an inexplicably bad move for them professionally.)

KFOG has been playing that very single and yes it is VERY Santana-like. I suspect The Peak is playing it -- are they getting any airplay in NYC proper?

And is Frankie a Knockout? or at least a "Sweetheart"?

They're getting no love in NYC radio at all, which is really surprising considering the size of the Latino/a population here.  (New York has more Puerto Ricans than Puerto Rico.)

Franke?  Oh goodness no.  A pleasant, mildly fey, mildly overweight man vaguely resembling a pockmarked Phil Silvers sans the glasses.  Queasy yet?

Is he playing Jones Beach this weekend or something? Our time may yet come folks--he's got two nights at the Big Phone in about two weeks. Feh.
Let's get right to it.

Set kicks off with obscure solo Jeff Lynne, "Every Little Thing," clearly influenced by his period of working with Roy Orbison.  Who should have sung this one himself, had he lived.

Today's BOS goes Bruce-ward, "Downbound Train," which could easily have been the 8th top-ten hit off Born in the USA.

WOS to Russ Ballard's prediction of the Giants' '04 outfield: "Moises ... I hear Moises ..."

And BOS2 to REM's "So. Central Rain," as alt-country as they ever got.

Jerry Reed was even more prescient: "Named him after a man o' the cloth... called him Amos Moises..."
