Is this Kate Bush?  Sounding intriguing, though "Running Up That Hill" was omnipresent for me around this time.

it is -- BOS2 just for novelty.

OMG did I miss Joanie B's "This is your Woodstock, and it's long overdue" clip?

'Fraid so.  Catch it tonight?

actually I won't be home in time.  But that clip is right up there with Grace at Woodstock, iconically speaking.

Thu 9/22: It's 1979
« Reply #392 on: September 22, 2005, 07:18:57 AM »
Autumn begins with some phoned-in Bonnie ("I Thank You"), some other stuff I forgot (including PF's "Hey You"), and something I've never heard from Dave, Fantasy Island footage.  And now, some amateurish new-wave wannabe-Elvis singing some "I gotcher number" nonsense.

Just got here and I'm trying to figure out who that could be.

Zep and B-52s "everybody had matching towels!"

oh it was the Jags -- "I got your number written on the back of my hand". Yes, very Elvis C (as Rob noted) -- but a great New Wave One Hit Wonder that got LOTS of NYC airplay at the time. Sorry I missed it, it's one of the few from that period I was unable to find a copy of, for my NWOHW mix tape series.

Friday: Happy Birthday, Broooce!
« Reply #394 on: September 23, 2005, 07:11:50 AM »
Indeed, it's all-Bruce as we celebrate his birthday.  I feel like I have the wrong perspective on him, missing his younger years initially and not knowing anything about him until he bought into Venice muscle-beach culture for "Dancing in the Dark."

And I'm just now reminded how difficult it is to make out his lyrics on "The Rising."  Should've been a bigger hit either way.

getting in shape (after being pretty damn skinny) is not the same as "buying into Venice Beach Muscle Culture".   But his makeover is another of those issues that Dave Marsh prefers to skirt. Certainly made the Boss more video-friendly, in any case.

Yay! "Be True"! a fave B-side (the flip of "Hungry Heart"?).

BOS "All That Heaven Will Allow".  Wish somebody'd play the Mavericks cover in a '93 set.

OMG! "Meeting Across the River", which Little Steven played during his salute to NYC last week.  Fabulous. I used to seg this with the theme from Taxi Driver.

Wow, would have loved to have heard that. But since NY is a Bruce stronghold, he can get away with that stuff back there and people appreciate it. Out here, a lot of folks would go, "huh? what's this?"

(Heard the original Mountain of Love the other day, and was reminded of Bruce's version, btw.)[/code]
Let's get right to it.

Mon 9/26: 1987. Mostly Morey-ish but Rob gets major props for playing Prince's "I Could Never take the Place of Your Man", from Sign o' the Times, the Prince LP that Dave forgot.

Tues 9/27: a Peak at 1975.  "Once Bitten Twice Shy" gets a BOS. and "Two Lane Highway" (Pure Prairie League? Poco? Outlaws? who remembers?) gets best obscurity of set.

Rob also played "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" and a clip from the Don Johnson/Harlan Ellison classic A Boy and His Dog.

Listened to the replay, major BOS to Lindsey Buckingham's "Go Insane."  Cocaine-induced paranoia never sounded so good, though the keyboards are a little dated.
