Not as much fun to go from 1982 one day to 1981 the next, but BOS to footage from Stripes ("We are not homosexual.  But we're willing to learn.") and OMGWTF to Lene Lovich, "New Toy," which I would bet $20 Mshray has in his collection (or wishes he did).

as they say in Chinese: Fei Hua!

(which means: That's like totally & insultingly obvious!)

It's on Rhino's Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's, Vol. 3.

Monday 7/25: It's 1978
« Reply #287 on: July 25, 2005, 07:38:10 AM »
Weird set so far.  Tuned in for back-to-back covers I can do without (the Blues Bros' "Soul Man," Devo's "Satisfaction").  And then, Meatloaf's "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" -- which, strangely, I just heard several frat-boy types singing along with at a bar in Boston Saturday night.  Then Joe Walsh's "Life's Too Good" -- doesn't anyone else think the solos go on just a little too long? -- and finally, RGMike's BOS doubtless, Tom Robinson's "2-4-6-8 Motorway."

Gotta get to work now.  Will be a limited presence on the board this week due to increased workloads on all fronts (this is a good thing).

Tuesday, July 26: Happy B-Day, Mick!

It's Mick Jagger's 62nd birthday, and so the Peak does its bit for the old git.  Surprised I'm able to tune in to an all-Stones set.  We started with "Sympathy for the Devil," now in "Dance Little Sister" or whatever that one's called.  Hoping for something from Goat's Head Soup, preferably "Tom Waits For No One."

I got excited -- I thought they were actually doing 1968!  KFOG played the new Stones tune earlier. Didn't catch the title, but one line was "I used to be your little rooster, but now I'm just one of your cocks" (!)

A CD I own, thank you very much.

And Tom Waits was the guy who spoke at an awards ceremony where Keith Richards was receiving a songwriting award. Or maybe that's the other way around. Either way? THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES!! OooOOoooOOoooOoooo!

just in time for '89: Cure, "Fascination Street", followed by the Stones' "Mixed Emotions", which I think I like more than most folks here.

OMGWTF! 1972 -- the furthest back they've EVER gone. Joni, "You Turn Me On I'm a Radio" (!) and Van's "Jackie Wilson Said".

Man, I wish I could've - but I just got home after yet another long and eventful day.  Some fun to be had, though.  Tonight I met Franke (as in, of the Knockouts): He's the manager of a very Santana-like Latin-rock band called de Sol that I went to see tonight at the Mercury Lounge.  (How Santana-like?  When advised that they only had five minutes left to play, instead of jumping into their current single, "Karma," they closed with a cover of "Oye Como Va."  Fun for the crowd, but an inexplicably bad move for them professionally.)

KFOG has been playing that very single and yes it is VERY Santana-like. I suspect The Peak is playing it -- are they getting any airplay in NYC proper?

And is Frankie a Knockout? or at least a "Sweetheart"?
