This WSJ piece was remarkable, Mike.  Thanks for posting.

No kidding!  I got to send that out to my farm-based relatives in the midwest.

and Andrew Sullivan weighs in -- not always my favorite person, not by a long shot, but well-stated here:

Palin tries to defend qualifications in interview

Among other things, she says she's qualified on foreign policy because Alaska is next to Russia.  "They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

AWESOME.

Sarah Palin.  If she shoots you in the face, it's because she was aiming for it.

McCain's roommates is a little more subtle, but also a classic.  Be sure to check out Pt 2 as well.

Yes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler opened SNL tonite as Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.  I'm sure it's on YouTube if you missed it.  Just wonderful.

"I can see Russia from my house!"

Peter asked Tim TV Goodman about that this morning & played the clip.

SNL going into it's 34th(!) season.

Peter also mentioned during his news bit that Obama had broken all previous fund-raising records by gathering $62 Million from 500,000 new (!) donors in August.

Paul Begala and Bill Maher talked on Maher's show about how they had made out checks to Obama and at the bottom had written "To be used for negative campaign ads ONLY! -- PLEASE!!!" LOL!

on a related note, this funny McCain phone message bit from 23/6:

Heard some GREAT Obama ads slamming McCain on KBCO in the last hour.  We don't hear a lot of ads here in Cali since both parties consider us solidly "blue", but they are running.
