I wasn't too disturbed to see in the same article that the First Lady's outfit was around $4000.  But I mean, how many people are gonna see the price tag on Cindy's oufit and think "WTF!? That cost more than my mortgage!"

I didn't realize ASCAP license fees gave politicians blanket coverage to use songs in campaigns. But this has happened before, and usually campaigns will stop using songs if asked. (Mellencamp asked some Repub last year to stop using "Our Country", and of course there was the Springsteen/Reagan "Born in the USA" dust-up.)  If Palin keeps using it, the Wilsons should donate the royalties to the Obama campaign.

All of this makes me even more curious about the Dems' use of Brooks & Dunn last week, and whether B&D approved.

So how does Kix Brooks feel about Obama’s use of the track? He wasn’t angry at Obama for using the song, a la Jackson Browne with John McCain. Instead Brooks said, “Seems ironic that the same song Bush used at the Republican Convention last election would be used by Obama and the Democrats now. Very flattering to know our song crossed parties and potentially inspires all Americans.”

So, they haven't complained, but they're clearly not Obama endorsers either.

I agree, of course, but the problem is... every time one of these things comes out it fires up the Fundies even more. Which is why McCain/Rove picked her in the first place.  I'm feeling very depressed at the moment.

I agree, of course, but the problem is... every time one of these things comes out it fires up the Fundies even more. Which is why McCain/Rove picked her in the first place.  I'm feeling very depressed at the moment.

I'm not worried about the segment of the population that gets fired up about Palin.  People get excited about Veep candidates during the convention weeks, but they don't actually vote for the Veep in November.  She's not stealing votes from Obama, and the fundies aren't going to swing the election.  If anything they will alienate the voters who *will* swing the election.

I can't wait until the debates.

See I would have thought that it would be 'consciously placed in an incorrect removed from a correct context to make a point'.  In particular I think Wrights comments made some sense not only within the narrower context of the whole sermon (text specific) but the broader context (literally subtext) of the Black Church experience.  But probably two sides of the same coin semantically speaking.
