speaking (as we were recently) about unnecessary remakes: I just heard, on the Drive's new Xmas channel (thanks Gaz for the tip), Brian Wilson remaking his own "Little St Nick", from his new Xmas CD.  Yawn.

The Request-O-Rama question this morning involved the Cars, who are "re-forming" (actually only one orig member is involved) with a "well-known" artist as frontman.  You had to guess who that was. A number of folks guessed Gary Numan (which woulda been my guess too, it seemed to be where Dave was directing us with comments like "think about it -- it's the Cars"). But no.

The "New Cars" are being fronted by... Todd Rungren!  WTF!?!

y'know, I think he changes it, but I'm blanking on who he mentions. There was a country version some years back that references Merle Haggard, iirc.

I don't remember if this has been mentioned already, but the latest news on 10@10's favorite bassist, Pino Palladino, is that he's playing in the John Mayer Trio blues outfit.  Xgau's take on them:

John Mayer Trio opening for Phil Lesh's gigs in SF at the end of the month. I'm still crossing my fingers I get mailed tickets from the mail in lottery.
Urth or Geoff, you have any pull for tix at the Fillmore or Warfield for Phil's shows?

Very comparable to Kelis's "Milkshake."  A fluff throwaway but so well produced and gratingly earwormy that it becomes a guilty pleasure.
