That new Iggy Pop song, the one that goes "I'm a Punk Rocker, yes I am" (it's actually some band with Iggy as Guest Vocalist) is already a Cadillac commercial.

A rather odd alt-rock cover of the Beatles' "From Me To You" (the melody has been thrown out the window) is being used for Macy's Xmas ad campaign.

Now, for some companies (McDonald's, for instance) it makes sense to do hip-hop commercials. But tonight I saw the new Greyhound bus campaign, flashy graphics + hip-hop sndtk. And I laughed out loud when I saw that their new wbsite is... letsgodog.com

not so much about music, but last weekend we were watching something on Discovery Channel, and saw ads for both Crown Royal & Johnny Walker Black.

Since when can hard alcohol be advertised on TV again?

It was sort of a gentleman's agreement not to advertise hard liquor, but it's been happening for years now, mainly on cable.  Tons of Captain Morgan, Malibu Rum, Jack Daniels, etc. ads.

What about the ban on cigarette ads on TV? That was legislated, wasn't it? I remember when stations still aired them (maybe til the early 70s?), then they all stopped.

I'm tired of hearing the John Melloncamp song during the Chevy commercials. When that song comes on KFOG, I turn the station.

I believe you're right about the cigarette ads.  It's funny to watch tapes of the early TV shows, sponsored by cigarette companies, with the stars prufusely sending up well-lit plumes of smoke for the cameras.

Indeed, this has been a running discussion on the Morning show -- KFOG has gotten a LOT of emails & calls complaining abot the fact that they're playing the JCM song.
