The new Franz Ferdinand video is for a song called "L. Wells" that isn't on their latest, You Could Have It So Much Better.  Song's good if not great -- but the video is the freshness: http://www.dominorecordco.com/site/downloads/Franz_L.Wellsvideo/ff_l_wells_HIGH.wvx

speaking of... from The Onion this week:

Franz Ferdinand Frontman Shot By Gavrilo Princip Bassist

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND—Lead singer and guitarist for pop band Franz Ferdinand, Alexander Kapranos, is in critical condition today after being shot by a man identified as the bassist for rock group Gavrilo Princip. "We ask fans to cooperate with Interpol to find the assailant, and call upon British Sea Power, Snow Patrol, and The Postal Service for help," drummer Paul Thompson told music magazine NME Monday. "The suspect had links to The Decemberists and The Libertines, and we are following up on all leads." It is unclear whether the shooting was linked to The Polyphonic Spree's invasion of Belgium earlier this week.

Ben Harper's New Single
« Reply #153 on: March 28, 2006, 07:48:53 PM »
I heard "Better Way" on KFOG last night, and was transfixed.  Very odd instrumentally.  Sitar (or tamboura?) fretless bass, gospel tinge, etc.  Bought it right away on iTunes.

Has anyone else heard this?

I had the same reaction, although I didn't buy it yet.  One of the most interesting things I've heard this year, and certainly the first time this year I can say that about a song I first heard on KFOG.

I just heard it again this morning, and the version they play is less edgy than what I bought.  After the instrumental break, the verse is screamed instead of sung on the version I have.  I'd like to get the 'safer' version if I want to convince my church band to play it!

Read a (rave) review of the album in Rolling Stone; apparently David Lindley is playing on "Better Way".

Well, the video on benharper.net shows Ben playing the slide (I realize that doesn't mean anything.  Do you have a link to the RS review?  I'll look for it.  Not sure if I still get it in the mail.  I've been subscribing for almost 40 years, but i hasn't been much fun for the last 30.

PS, here's the link:

OMG and wow -- This morning KFOG finally played James McMurtry's angry, powerful and completely wonderful "We Can't Make It Here Anymore". They referred to it as "new" but KPIG has been playing it since before Thanksgiving. Coulda knocked me over with a feather when I heard it today.

Yep--I heard it earlier this week too. Typical KFOG M.O.--trying to fob off something that's been out for 6 months as "new."
Let's get right to it.
