So I happened to see this clip yesterday of Travis Hafner (one of my fave big beefy sluggers) being interviewed at Spring training. And I thought "Am I crazy or is he a lot smaller than he was?"  Well... turns out it's a trend:

So sayeth the article:
Quote
Some of them did it by eating grilled fish. Others played active video games with their children. Some went on diet programs or took up yoga. Others cut back on alcohol. Whatever they did, clubhouse attendants are coming up with smaller uniforms all over Florida and Arizona.

Yeah, suuurrrre.
Let's get right to it.

Yeah, but I still would have rather had him in some other division or even league, and definitely not with the Bums.  Say what you will, but he hits and the teams he's on win.

Giants release Dave Roberts, yet another over-the-hill signing of the Sabean era. No diss on Roberts, he's got a great head and a great heart, but his body just ain't following the program. But the Giants are on the hook to him for $6.5M, so I think he'll be OK.

I'm not a Manny Hater, but then again I'm not a Giants fan either.  There was never any question of the Cardinals forking over $40M+ for 2 yrs when they don't even pay Pujols that much (he's making just under $30M the next two yrs).  But I still wondered just what would happen if Manny wound up under LaRussa and in a player friendly town like St. Louis.  If he didn't have the media in his face & got unconditional love from the fans, would he perform for a no-nonsense old-schooler like Tony L.?  Guess we'll never know.

Two Nebraska wrestlers were involved in a scandal where they posed nude on an internet site. They have been dismissed from the team.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/more/08/12/bc.wre.neb.wrestlers.porn.ap/index.html

I've actually seen a couple pictures but I won't post the link to those pictures because it's adult in nature. If anyone wants to see it, PM me and I'll forward the link.

UPDATE: One of the dismissed wrestlers, Paul Donahoe, who won his semifinal match in the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday night, did an interview with the Boston Globe.

an interesting story which outsports.com has covered extensively; more evidence of the tremendous difference in attitudes towards gay people between guys of this kid's generation and that of his parents'.

Curt Schilling hangs 'em up. Shouldn't come as a shock, since he missed all of last season.

Raidahs resurgence?  The Silver & Black will not only be seen on the MNF opener again this year, but they also get to play on Thanksgiving against Dallas.

btw, it's a MNF double header, with the Bills-Patriots in the all red, white and blue first game:

Oh, sure. Just what the NFL season needs: more games.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/03/23/sports/s131622D10.DTL&tsp=1

I am all for dropping 2 preseason games and turning them into regular season games.  They charge season ticket holders full price for preseason games, and I don't go to them.  But I would go to an extra regular season game.
