I've noticed that the Pay-Per-View NHL games on cable that are normally free for a week or so at the beginning of the season, after which they ask you to purchase a package... are still free, even though we're nearly 2 months into the season. I'm guessing they'll be free for the duration?

If I were an actual paying subscriber, I'd be pissed.

Hallelujah! Tim McCarver's retiring!!

Note that nearly ALL the comments below the article are of the "it's about time!" and/or "take Joe Buck with you!" variety.

Basketball: Jason Collins comes out; the Sac'to Kings have to stay in.

I have been a fan of Stanford basketball for a long time, and Collins might have been the best player they ever had.  Good for him.

His SI piece was really damned impressive.

But great snarky comment of the day: "Collins becomes the third openly gay Wizard, after Dumbledore and Gandalf".  ;)

Fear the (Blue)Beard: Brian Wilson signs with Dodgers.

Good for him.  It's not like the Giants wanted him, and a freak's gotta eat.  And those latex tuxes don't come cheap.

So, this might have been mentioned elsewhere, but I don't know.  Anyway, yesterday they announced the Superbowl halftime act:

wait for it....

Bruno Mars!

I have no real opinion here, and don't really care.  But I'm sure others will/do...

Yeah ,we discussed in g'snipes. Gen'l consensus: Mr Mars puts on quite a show, and they've more or less run out of geezers, so more power to him.

I'll buy that.  The clips they showed of him leading up to the announcement indicated a pretty great live show.

Ended up watching a bit of the Raider press conference show last night.  At one point, Bill Romanowski says this:

"Look; hindsight is 50/50..."

Which in Bill's case is just about right.
