Tim Flannery, Giants third base coach, is on the Bone right now.  He's pretty funny, talking up his appearance tonight at Yoshi's SF, it's a benefit for Bryan Stow. He called his music in the line of "Gram Parsons Flying Burrito Brothers Ameri-cosmic.."   What a great term.

Dumping Paterno now is a great message.  Don't let Joe leave on his terms -- he's done enough on his terms already -- dump him right before his last home game.  wake up, kids.  He may be an institution, and embodied all that honor, integrity and loyalty and leadership, but those qualities should have been practiced outside of the stadium and field house.  The trustees dumped the university president, too, but I didn't see any signs to save him...  the fans and students have their priorities. 

[ETA: I did see some photos of students with signs saying 'we are Penn State, and we are ashamed,' etc.  So I'm not saying all PS students/fans want Paterno to stay, just the usual idiots.]

Scandals like this - child molesting - have been swept under rugs forever.  It's just too embarrassing to expose, so let's deal with it in house.  Sounds a little like a particular church based in the Vatican, no?

Sounds as if there are a lot of people there (not just students) who just don't get it. Glad to read that there are a few who do. This guy deserves a medal for bravery.

Here's something I didn't see coming. The Houston Astros are reportedly switching leagues, and will be come part of the AL West in 2013, creating two 15-team leagues. This means there will be one interleague matchup every day throughout the season, rather than short periods when everyone (except two NL teams) are playing opponents from the other league. The league is forcing new owner Jim Crane to accept this move as a condition of his purchase of the team from Drayton McLane.

I think the 15/15 thing was inevitable.... it was a bit unfair to have one six-team division and one four-team division, don't you think?
On the other hand, I would have thought the more logical thing to do would be to move Arizona to the AL West and Houston to the NL West.

As I said in the comments there, I have no problem with Madonna -- she's got a huge catalog of big hits, she's show(wo)man enuf to put together a jam-packed 12 minutes, and she's female-friendly, which a lot of the geezer-rock choices are not.

That said, JCM makes sense since it's in Indy this year. And Hartlaub must be kidding about Jay-Z -- NFL ain't going there (well, maybe next time it's in NYC again, so he can do "Empire State of Mind").
