Bob Costas sat in with Dave Fleming for a half-inning tonight on KNBR, and apparently Al Michaels did the same w the TV side. They're in town b/c they'll be doing tomorrow's game together for MLB network.

Beat me to it... I was listening in the car when Costas dropped in.  A TV guy who loves radio, bless his heart.

Al Michaels & Bob Costas now doing their fill-in for Kruk'n'Kuip on Comcast for innings 6 & 7 (K'n'K are on MLB Network for those innings, but you can't see that in SF).

I was watching the game on MLB, so saw some of Kruk & Kuip's turn in the 6th & 7th.  Then had to go grill some salmon, came back and saw Costas and Michaels doing the 8th & 9th. But where were those two during the early innings? They had the usual MLB idiots doing the first few innings--far inferior to either of the two duos that followed.
Let's get right to it.

yep, deceased of stomach cancer some years back.  I gotta say a) I am SOOOO glad a prominent black athlete is finally calling out the African-American community on its endemic homophobia, and in particular pointing out the cognitive dissonance of it all, & b) Who, I mean really, who would ever have guessed that the one to do it would be Michael Irvin!?!?  But more power to him.

[rant]and as good a time as any for my spiel on BW. He's a great pitcher, and I'm glad he's our closer and not somebody else's. But he's a seriously weird dude, I think, beyond howevermuch of what he does is "shtick" designed to keep him in the public eye East of SF. And what I REALLY don't get is women (and gay guys) who actually find him "hot". If any guy who was not a millionaire athlete walked up to you in a bar or on the street looking like BW and with a beard that ridiculous... you'd run screaming in the other direction; you'd assume it was a homeless person. as if all this KFOG demographics stuff isn't already making me feel old... the SF Giants just posted a poll: which of these songs should they play tonite at the 7th Inning Stretch?

1: Dynamite by Taio Cruz
2: Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO
3: Hey Baby by Pitbull
4: No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool
5: Firework by Katy Perry

Seriously? sheesh.

We were at a restaurant last night and I saw for a second Kruk and Kuip wearing these outrageous harlequin shirts/jackets/whatevers at the beginning of the game.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Is there a pic anywhere to post?

A Giants/Carlos Beltran deal said to be very close...

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/giants/detail?entry_id=94048

ETA: still pending. And in other news, Cain to start tonite; Timmeh, like AL, is still ill.

ETA2: still no G-Men/Beltran deal as of 9pm.  But the A's are kicking Tampa Bay butt, 13-0 (!)

You sure? I guess technically it's not completely finalized until the league signs off tomorrow, but ESPN was talking like it was pretty much a done deal since I turned on Baseball Tonight at 7:30. And what I'm seeing on SFGate sounds that way as well.

Thought I'd posted about this before but couldn't find it anywhere: Josh Willingham of the A's has as his walk-up music... "Your Love" by the Outfield. He knows neither the song nor the band's name has anything to do with baseball, right?
