And speaking of Mr Rodgers... I didn't know he was from Chico. So why does he sound like some Ozark backwoodsman?

I wikipeed him and it says he spent some time in Oregon before returning to Chico. Maybe he was raised by mountain folk...?

from wikipedia:

Rodgers was discovered by California head coach Jeff Tedford, who was recruiting Butte tight end Garrett Cross.

Surely you remember the In Living Color "Men on Film" Super Bowl bit from back in the day.

David Allen Grier: "I hear he's a tight end"

Damon Wayans: "Not any more, honey!"

According to Saturday's Oregonian, he lived in Beaverton for about three years between his 10th and 13th birthdays, while his dad attended chiropractic school here.  But three years in the hinterlands of the Portland suburbs could be enough to turn you into a hick.

So who should play the next Super Bowl?  I like the idea of Stevie Wonder & Aretha Franklin:

I was really surprised the Police didn't do it the year of their big reunion tour. Stevie & Ree-Ree, sure I'd love that. Jay-Z is more likely, tho'

Clearly the Slack-Jawed Fleas were the NFL's attempt to skew younger after all those geezer acts; If the ratings were as good as I hear they were, then the bad reviews may not matter and they may stay in that musical ballpark. I was surprised, given that the game was in Texas, that they didn't go for ZZTop or a big-name country act like Toby or Kenny.  Next year the SB is in Indianapolis -- paging Mr Mellencamp!

I was rooting for the Packers; I don't hate the Steelers but like them a lot less since Big Ben started raping people. I also very much liked the idea of Green Bay winning WITHOUT Brett "Drama Queen" Favre. Served him right.

The game ended up being exciting after threatening to be a blowout early on. But the Steelers kept finding ways to screw up.
