Cal-Stanford Big Game this weekend.

The Cal Band and a handful of Cal cheerleaders just did a couple laps around the Chronicle newsroom, playing their fight songs, which they do every year.

Those kid are getting younger and younger, I tell ya.

Will KFOG have the Cal Octet (aka the Future Gay Men's Chorus Members) on this week? Dave used to love those guys, singing about the "fuzzy wuzzy golden bear", nudgenudgewinkwink.

You can't hassle the Huff: Aubrey's sticking around for 2 more years for $22 million.

Sports Illustrated will announce its choice for Sportsman of the Year on Nov. 29.
Here's one of the nominations for that honor by SI writer Tom Verducci.

I'm always worried when Comcast is responsible for content, such as Giants games.  I worry that if I'm not watching at a comcast location, I won't see as many games.

Posted in AL's FB thread after today's '68 set, a bit of MLB trivia I didn't know:

"the Mets and Giants voted to postpone their 1968 Candlestick Park home opener out of respect for Dr. King. Major League Baseball would not honor the request."

The Giants didn't waste much time filling the shortstop slot left by Juan Uribe--they just signed Miguel Tejada. At 36 he's no youngster (he turns 37 in May), but at least they're only on the hook for one year at $6.5 mil. On the other hand, looks like Sabean is back to his old ways--signing over-the-hill former stars. Here's hoping he's still feeling limber. Wish they'd made a run at Marco Scutaro though.

Yeah, I'd've preferred Scutaro too. Was his price that high?

Pat the Bat gets to stay in SF another year. Let's hope he hits more like he did during the regular season than he did in the Series.

Ew.  Fucking cheat.  I don't believe he's 36, either.

As Paul Harvey used to say, "here's the other side of the story":  Burrell, without an agent, accepted Sabean's well-below-market offer (for a veteran of Burrell's tenure) of $1 mil because he really wanted to stay with the Giants. Full stop. No testing the market, no waiting to see who else came nibbling. Just "One million? OK, I'll take it." Done.  This just doesn't happen anymore. Assuming there's nothing further to this story, he probably just earned himself a whole raft of fans among the Giants faithful, poor WS stats or no. Me included.
