Zito gets his 4th consecutive win -- he pitched 8 innings tonite! -- and it's only April. The best April he's ever had, in fact.  He must be smoking some of Lincecum's stash.

nice piece on the rejuvinated Barry Z. (He's pitching tonite in FLA)

Braden is perfect
« Reply #1503 on: May 09, 2010, 04:35:04 PM »
History made in Oaktown today: pitcher Dallas Braden faces the minimum 27 batters and pitches the 19th perfect game in major league history, and the first for the A's since Catfish Hunter did it 42 years ago.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/05/09/SPA11DBV1F.DTL&type=sports&tsp=1

Total attendance: 12,228, about twice as many as saw Catfish's gem.
Let's get right to it.

The attendance issue for the A's is a sad story this year.  Maybe this will wake folks up (and I'm guilty: haven't been to the Coliseum yet this season). Oh, and A-Rod: shut the fuck up.

Good for him.  And if he wants to play Thursdays, I think I can find a spot for him on my team.  Lord knows we need the help.

and in a related story... we present Evan SCHLONGoria! (a chick who writes a Boston sports blog SWEARS it's the Tampa Bay slugger's, um, slugger) NSFW, obviously.

Byrnes is on KNBR right now, co-hosting "SportsPhone" with FP Santangelo. Dunno if this is a regular gig or a one-off.

My erstwhile phavorite Phillie, Pat "the Bat" Burrell, may be inking a minor-league deal ... with the Giants:

And less than three weeks later, Roy Halliday does it again, becoming the 20th pitcher to throw a perfect game. First time there have ever been two perfect games in one season, not to mention three within a year's time (Mark Buerle did it for the White Sox last June.)

great little sidebar in today's Chron: The Florida Marlins are apparently now selling the unsold tix from that game with the Phillies-- selling 'em at face value, so that you can pretend you witnessed Halliday's perfect game. Or re-sell them on E-Bay. (Only about 25,000 attended in person that day.)  So why aren't the A's doing the same for the 22,000 (!) unsold tix from Braden's perfecto?

What a punch in the gut - I cannot even imagine.  He'll have his own special place in history, though.

But sheesh - now THREE perfectos in a month, and FOUR within a year?
