As always, the first hour or so is full of lesser-heard goodies.

VHM Dr Hook's ode to sloppy seconds. BOS1 Donny Osmond's surprisingly fine remake of "C'mon Marianne" -- one of his best 45s, IMHO.

Oh, irony: this story about Neil Sedaka pretending not to be married at the same time he was pretending not to be gay.  "Stepping Out" is quite the forgotten 45.

And 1550 is playing last week's '73 show again for some reason. Ooops! BOS2 one of my fave Ohio Players jams, "Who'd She Coo?" WOS Wild Cherry; Casey misidentifies it as "Play THE Funky Music".

VHM Chicago's "Another Rainy Day in NYC" -- the first single from that LP and a relative stiff. But then "If You Leave Me Now" became their first #1. Love the story about Steve Miller's broken neck. BOS3 Tavares' fantabulous "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel"; BOS4 Ree-Ree's "Something He Can Feel", one of her best vocals and the fact that it only got to #28 is criminal -- never understood her mid-'70s chart struggles.

"I'm not talkin' 'bout the linen..."

"WOW!" of the Week: this Canadian extra by Gordon Lightfooot, "Black Day in July", a song about the 1967 Detroit riots. NTM, amazingly.

VHM Natalie Cole -- "Sophisticated Lady" is one I like more now than I did then. BOS5 as I get ready to head out: the Carpenters' lovely "I Need to Be In Love". Sadly, KFRC's screw-up means I can't hear the next hour or so in the car; I'll get '73 instead.

Back for the Top 6:  EJ tells Kiki "don't go breakin' my balls" but bustin' makes her feel good.

Afternoon's a delight but moonlight feels right!

Dan Ingram used to do a great bit with the spoken intro to "Kiss and Say Goodbye". "the principal called me into his office on the last day of school..."

Pre-countdown: CKRU plays a delightful Neil Diamiond obscurity, "Sunday Sun"

And '84 starts with a BOS for Robin Gibb's unfairly forgotten "Boys Do Fall in Love" -- has it really been a year since we heard this last?  And BOS2 Ms Lauper, she-boppin' -- boys fall in love, but girls play with themselves, apparently.

Ah ay-um da wah-wee-uh! Your eyes touch me physically. er, eww.

BOS3 Sheila E: girlfriend got glam!

Oh yeah!  Tuned in just in time for Face to Face's "10-9-8".  Gawd, I love this song!  BOS1
Bang, bang...followed by The Warrior.  The song is a WTF, as is the video - but I love it anyway.  I'm in heaven right now! BOS2!

Here's Sheila E. with her big brown Mercedes sedan.  BOS3.  Damn, gurl!

"If This Is It" gets a VHM, mostly for the video and hometown connection.

Oh yeah!  Tuned in just in time for Face to Face's "10-9-8".

She says she counts down but "never gets to 1" -- does that mean her boyfriend isn't, y'know, getting the job done? Maybe she should hook up with Big Huey.

BOS4 Peter Wolf! "dancin' in the dark to the radio of love"

Maybe she should get with Prince to get her to the seventh wave.   ;)

"Lights Out" gets BOS4.  Man, I may not leave the house for a while.  '84 is my year!

BOS5 "Turn To You" - The Go-Go's.  Another fun video (feat. Rob Lowe!)

unfortunately Sergio Mendes and Glenn Frey are upcoming -- good time for me to put laundry in the machine. (But not before I give them WOS 1 & 2)

I forgot how much that Sergio Mendes song sucked.  This Glenn Frey isn't as bad...the lyrics are pretty atrocious though.

Every breath you take, every step you make, I'll be "Missing You".

WOS3 Starship. yikes, they put out some seriously dreadful singles in that decade. "No Way Out" sounds like something Journey turned down.

Huey's got something that's throbbing. Oh, it's just his heart.

Proxy of Gaz, "Romancing the Stone". yo, romance these stones, baby!

And speaking of things Journey discarded: here's Steve Perry!

"My Alibi" was still worse.

Gotta BOS John Taylor's funky bass line in The Reflex.  Tra la la la...

Heaven help Kenny Loggins: WOS4.

VHM Duran2, re-fle-fle-fle-fle-flexing.

eek: another way-creepy LDD.  But yay this Lindsay Buckingham extra.

DLR reaches down between his legs. He's just trying to find Corey Hart's sunglasses.

BOS5 Peabo -- swoon!. VHM the late Ms Branigan.  People walking out on the Cars? Bwahahaha!

Biggest snoozer of set: Lionel Ritchie. Proxy of shray, Thompson Twins.  BOS6 Dan Hartman. WOS4 "Almost Paradise" -- when the GUY in the duet is the one wearing red leather pants, you know you're in trouble.

BOS7 Ollie & Jerry. "Breakin'"

DAMN! 1970 starts with a pair of BOSes: the Impressions' "Check Out Yo' Mind" and Jr Walker's fab "Do You See My Love For You Growing".  Soul heaven.

Heh: Casey's confused by that Chicago title.  But lawdy: BOS3 the Diana-less Supes, singing about marriage equality 40 years ahead of time. And BOS4 John Phillips. "do it to me, James"

proxy of Gaz: the Three Degrees -- evil as a wet hen.  the loong version of the spoken intro, and BOS5 for that alone.

and OMFG it's a lost soul festival: the Lost Generation, "the Sly, the Slick, the Wicked (wickedwickedwickedwickedwicked)"  VHM.
