I wouldn't mind seeing Rufus Wainwright or Crowded House, particularly if Tim Finn is still on board (as he is for Coachella in a couple weeks).

Hoping both play Warfield or Fillmore dates adjacent to those winery gigs tho--not as far to drive and tix are a bit more reasonable (or rather, a little less exhorbitant).
Let's get right to it.

Saw Jersey Boys last night, and a very enjoyable 2-1/2+ hours it is.  The story is told in very broad strokes (some might even say cartoonish), but the songs of course are great.  Highly recommended, especially to Gaz (get yerself to the half-price-ticket booth some evening, bub).  Interestingly, Gaz's perennial WOS "Oh What a Night" and the circumstances surrounding it (yes it really is about Bob Gaudio's loss of virginity) are played for laughs, which could make you see it in a whole new light going forward. But (talk about TANC) the regular Bob Gaudio was out sick, and it was the understudy's FIRST TIME EVER playing the part, and he was great. And I never knew about the Joe Pesci connection.

The Playbill also lists "the ones that got away" -- all the songs they weren't able to incorporate into the show. Biggest disappointment in that regard: no "Swearin' to God".

ha! i first read that a few days ago, and i've been trying to figure out if george benson plays too many notes when he plays. he does, and i figured that was the motive behind calling him "roamin' hands." i just realized why you said that. ha! i think i'd rather his hands than al's, to be honest.

poc, my love, you absolutely MUST commit that story to an actual textual blog or narrative or something.  Out of my whole lifetime spent among people who like to talk* that is in a deadheat tie for The Funniest true-life anecdote I've ever heard**.  When you first told Beej & me, I swear it ranked right up there with Thurber's "The Night The Bed Fell".

*which is to say that people who don't like to talk obviously don't spend much time talking to me.

**the only other such story is the one Father Gerry Kleba tells...of how one time in the 70's a couple of his Jesuit brothers returned to their parsonage in urban St. Louis, only to find two brothers from the neighborhood walking out with their TV.  These gullible priests reached the unspoken conclusion that another of their order (almost certainly their monsignor) must have decided to donate all their worldly possessions to whatever community organization these fellows represented.  They then proceeded, not only to assist in their own burglarization, but also to convince the 3rd and 4th priests to return home that night to lend their assistance as well.  It was only when the monsignor returned (a few minutes ahead of Father Gerry) & the Jesuits brothers began looking to get a few pats on the back for effectuating the donation, that the truth came out.  At this point the two erstwhile thieves were so discombobulated that they just sat there waiting for the cops to show up.

good gawd -- Xanadu, one of the worst movies, like, EVER... is being produced on Broadway. It opens in June and includes all the songs from the film plus additional ELO tunes like "Evil Woman". Yikes.

Barry Zito doing a charity gig.

Quote
"You're invited to join Giants starting pitcher, Barry Zito, Giants shortstop Omar Vizquel, Raquel Aurilia, Sally Zito and Jeff Austin Black as they take the stage for charity on Thursday, May 24 at Ruby Skye in San Francisco. Our Giants stars will be joined with a performance by rock legend, Eddie Money!"

Pay enough and you can meet and greet Barry. Otherwise, general admission.

"Sally Zito" -- his mother? his sister?

Is there anywhere Eddie Money *won't* show up to play?
