Okay, I got the confirmation.  Going to Chicago this weekend.  Meetings Monday morning, flying back out about 3pm Chicago time, which I presume means lunch before departing.

Wish me luck!

Worldmark Update:

Just got the following email from Pat, the President with whom I interviewed 2 weeks ago in Chicago.

I'm planning to get things together this week and will be in touch by the end of the week to discuss options.

Take care and I'll speak with you soon,

Pat

I'm taking this as an informal yes, but I'm not ready to start celebrating yet.

Smart to keep your expectations in check, but I think it sounds pretty good. Way to go, bro.
Let's get right to it.

Careful with those options, they've been many an exec's undoing lately.   :o

The job wouldn't have you moving to Chi-town, would it?

Chuckle, but no, this is not a listed company, so there are no options of that sort.  I believe the options he wants to discuss relate to my soon-to-be job title/description.  One major element of which is being their account director for Cisco, which places me squarely in Silicon Valley, not Chicago.  But Pat is based in Chi-town, so that's where I had to go for the inteview.

Wooo-HOOOO! Fab news!! So glad this finally came together for you!

One small caveat: don't submit your resignation 'til you get an offer letter in hand from the new company. Based on the e-mail you quoted above, you're 99 44/100% in like Flynn, but you occasionally hear horror stories of stuff going south at the last minute. It won't hurt to wait til you have something in writing (and you probably know this already anyway). The above e-mail may stand up as a committment, but an actual written offer would be iron-clad.

Again, congrats, my man. A long time coming!! And you'll likely have reason to travel to Chi-town now and again--you should start chatting up Bob for drinks some time.
Let's get right to it.

I'm late with my Yippie-Kai Yai Mo Fo's, but hurrah!  Can't wait till the contracts are signed!

Meantime, I may have a new gig of my own, as a music blogger/community builder/trendspotter for a forthcoming website called TBD ("The Boomer Desintation").  We're still in discussion stages but this could be fun.  Especially if you guys don't mind if I recycle some of my riffs here for TBD's consumption.   :o

Will keep y'alls posted.  PS: They're based in SF, which is another compelling point for me.

Way to go Joe!  Please come back to SF!  :D  :)  :D  :)

Earlier tonight I finally got to speak directly with Pat, my potential new president, and he apologized again for being so busy.  He said he'd be here next week, and we should meet for lunch on Tuesday to go over the details of my offer (of which he further promised that I'd receive the details in the next 24 hrs, and apologized that the HR folks in Scotland had taken so long), and he added "I'm 100% sure that I want you on my team."

Which is good, since I had actually eschewed Jim's advice and given my notice on Monday evening.

Somewhere in the near future there's gonna be a party wherein I get to dispose of some of my newly disposable income.  I may have sounded glib to this point, but seriously, this has been an unbelievably trying year for me, and I count it as a near miracle that I not only may be able to survive it intact, but may even come out significantly ahead of the game.  I can't conceive of where I'd be right now if I didn't have all of your all's friendship every day to see me through.  Truly.  Words cannot express....
