Today's 10@10 is an extended, maxi-length visit to a year that's a treasure trove of classic pop singles and soul gems -- 1970!!!! Yes, I confess, I've once again gone a wee bit past the 10 song structure, but I guarantee it's worth it. (And I think the set is still shorter than the prog-rock girth-fest --which I LOVED -- that we heard a couple weeks ago.) So with no further ado, I give you... 1970!!!

Fine by me. And I doubt Mr. Shray would have a problem. He'd probably be chuffed.

Ohai all. Greg posted a set today on the Pop-Up Patreon: "10@10 from 1978, which includes "Running with the Devil," as a tribute to the late, great Eddie Van Halen who passed away Tuesday at age 65."

He prefaced it with: "Took us a while to dig this up (the cataloging of the archives is done almost entirely by memory)"

Would y'all be ok sharing the Shraydatabase with him? I told him I'd ask.

Thanks!

Part of the songwriting duo behind Fountains of Wayne and and the man who wrote the irresistibly catchy title song for "That Thing You Do" (among many other credits) passed away today in a hospital in New York, suffering from COVID-19.

I am bereft.

Stream of Consciousness / Re: KFOG, But Not 10@10

Hey y'all, can someone please help me find a post that someone (not one of us, a newcomer I think) made to our forum with a link to a dropbox account that had several hundred MP3s of 10@10s dating back to the late 80s. I ran across it a few months ago while catching up here and thought I bookmarked it but can't find it now to save me.
I'm curious if it came from one of the people who've offered up their 10@10 collections to Greg and Renee's Patreon archive. I'm planning to do the same with mine, but it's fallen into some disarray over the last decade or so.

The TOTHC was Star by Stealers' Wheel. I think the 3rd song was Meadows by Joe Walsh.

Thanks — I wasn’t finding this set in the database.

I looked too, with the same result -- it must be pre-Shraytabase.

In her farewell "Acoustic Sunrise" this morning, Rosalie did shout-outs to her former KFOG colleagues. She said Dave Morey is on a station in Palm Springs ( KWIR/Palm Springs http://bit.ly/KWIRFM ) which was news to me. Per Dred Scott on FB, Dave's on that station "whenever he feels like it."

Also news to me: on Dave's Michigan station ( Wxtf-Lp 97.9 Harrisville www.979 harrisville ), there's a show called "Barry's Dynamite Show" and it turns out Barry is Rosalie's husband. Also, John Grappone is still doing weekends on KINK in Portland.

I've listened to Dave's new station a few times, but his broadcast schedule is pretty much nonexistent. I check in to see if he's on once or twice a week, and might get lucky once a month. As on WTF, he rarely (never) opens the mic, and sticks more to old jazz and r&b with a healthy helping of vintage commercials and soundbites. It's definitely not 10@10 redux.

(Btw, Dave departed Michigan nearly two years ago for the warmer climes of Palm Springs; I guess nearly 30 years in CA (even the Bay area's moderate climate) had taken away his resistance to Michigan winters. The station was able to relocate to the basement of another of its regular volunteers and continues broadcasting on a pretty steady 7-day schedule, although a number of volunteer jocks left at the time the station moved.)

I know less of Barry's Dynamite Show, simply because it airs on Saturdays when I'm usually not in front of a computer. But Barry's a good guy and has exemplary taste in music (i.e. as guys of a certain age who worked in the music biz often do) so I expect it's quite entertaining.
