Saw Zito shut down the Phils on TV today.  Nice outing - and nice bat work, too.  Alas, I had him benched in my fantasy baseball league b/c I thought he'd get shellacked.

The Chron carried a piece from the St Pete Times today about Pat the Bat and what a bust he's been for the Rays this year. I'm sure you could help him get his, er, average up. ;)

Florida does bad things to people.  I bet he's been partying his income away.

You may have heard the Rick Pitino sex scandal story by now (he had sex with some woman at a restaurant, she got preggers and he gave her 3Gs to pay for an abortion). But hey -- it's all Osama Bin laden's fault!

An ESPN.com story on this took pains to describe him - *twice* - as a "devout Catholic."  The public-image-rehab campaigns start earlier and earlier.

PS: One of his guys stuck around and listened in on them having sex in the restaurant after hours?  That's the weirdest detail to me.

as a coach he's had success at many levels, so maybe his guy was trying to pick up some pointers.  "Hey Coach, are you sure you should employ the box-and-one now?"

I think compared to Vick, all of a sudden McNabb is going to seem practically white.  Wonder what Rush Limbaugh will say now.

A friend who considers himself something of a wag listed this as his Facebook status:  Squeaky Fromme released from prison - expected to report to Eagles training camp next week.

Let's get right to it.

Ha, nice.  Me, I've always favored man-to-man coverage.

Ditto -- kudos to Gaz's friend; Line of the Week, definitely.

Bill Maher said tonite that Vick claims he didn't kill any dogs, he was just giving them "end of life counseling".

Couple weeks ago, Sports Illustrated did a cover story on Tim Tebow, the prosletyzing quarterback whose dad is a raibidly right-wing fundamentalist preacher. The article was a total hand-job, gushing over how swell Tebow is, how dedicated to doing good.  No mention of (for one example) his controversial trip to Africa with his father to circumcize people against their will.

So this week came the letters-to-the-editor about the article and much to my delight, of the 9 letters they printed, 6 were anti-Tebow, along the lines of "great, just what the world needs: another football player to tell us that Jesus helped him win the Super Bowl". And my favorite (from a San Franciscan, of course): "Bring back Kenny Stabler!" And this is SI, whose readers are not exactly raging lefties.  Most encouraging -- it's on newsstands now (the College Football Preview issue).
