Here's (one of) my 1973 sets:

 1. The Allman Brothers Band - Southbound
(Alice Cooper anti-drug PSA)
 2. Roberta Flack - Killing Me Softly With His Song
(News: Billie Jean King beats Bobby Riggs)
 3. Elton John - Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock 'N' Roll)
(Commercial: Mac Davis - Everybody's Hooked On Radio)
 4. Tom Jones - Letter To Lucille
 5. Elvis Presley - Raised On Rock
(Bob Weir anti-drug PSA)
 6. Tony Joe White - Homemade Ice Cream
(Movie: The Long Goodbye)
 7. Chicago - Jenny
(Commercial: Glen Campbell - Music, News & Kindness)
 8. Chuck Berry - Bio
 9. Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Brother Louie
(Richard Perry anti-drug PSA)
10. Nilsson - As Time Goes By

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/03-10-10-1973

I had this set prepped and ready to go, but I realized I had made a mistake with the anti-drug PSAs -- I had originally used ones from the 1975 Get Off II instead of the 1973 Get Off, so I had to go back and do some editing.

As always, hope you enjoy listening, and feel free to comment!

Listened to this and the '65 set back to back the other day, and while I liked them both a lot, I think this one is my favorite of the ones you've posted so far. (Not discounting the fact that early 70s sets tend to be my favorites most of the time anyway.) As is the case with your creations, I can only say I've heard 4 or 5 of the included songs (one of which was Jenny), but liked all of 'em (OK maybe the Chuck Berry tune was a throwaway). A big part of this set's appeal for me was the clips. The anti-drug PSAs are excellent, and the segue from the Richard Perry one into Nilsson was pretty subtle.

Gotta ask: what's the deal with all the Tom Jones songs? I'm digging them (and the difference between this one and the one in your '65 set is striking) but he's turned up in at least 3 of the sets you've posted so far.  Lord knows I'm certainly not burned out on him--he's one who rarely turned up in any 10@10s.
Let's get right to it.

Glad you liked those clips and that someone finally noticed the Richard Perry/Nilsson segue. :)

Uh oh, Tom Jones is to me what the Foo Fighters were/are to AL!  :o

Actually, I was attempting to include artists that were generally not heard on 10@10 (e.g. Tom Jones, Glen Campbell, The Monkees mid-68 forward), but I guess I was overzealous in making sure Tom Jones made some appearances (I have him in one more upcoming 1968 set which I just finished compiling today).  I have most of his records, if anyone was wondering.

If you have any artists/songs you'd like to hear, I do take requests (unlike DC/RR).  :D

In honor of today's 1964 set, I've uploaded my 1969 set:

 1. Little Milton - Grits Ain't Groceries (All Around The World)
(Movie: True Grit)
 2. Glen Campbell - Galveston
 3. Jefferson Airplane - Wooden Ships
(TV: Mama Cass TV special)
 4. Mama Cass - It's Getting Better
(TV: This Is Tom Jones)
 5. Tom Jones - Love Me Tonight
 6. The Isley Brothers - The Blacker The Berrie (aka Black Berries)
(Commercial: Monkees Kool-Aid)
 7. The Monkees - You And I
 8. Bill Deal & The Rhondels - What Kind Of Fool Do You Think I Am
(Movie: Medium Cool)
 9. The Temptations - Message From A Black Man
10. Mary Hopkin - Goodbye

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/10-10-10-1969

FYI, originally all of the soundbites were variety show clips (Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, The Monkees appearing on The Johnny Cash Show), but I changed it.  As always, enjoy, and feel free to comment!  Have a great weekend!  :)

BTW, if you're looking for 1996, I'll reupload it on Sunday night/Monday morning.

That Little Milton is excellent!!  Ditto for Glen Campbell!

Nice to hear the *other* version of Wooden Ships.

Was that Fred Willard in the This is Tom Jones clip?

Really nice R&B aspect to this set. Isleys, Little Milton & Bill Deal/Rhondels (who I doubt I've ever heard of before) all really nice. And props to TJ, too. He's got soul, too.

Loved hearing Goodbye for the first time in ages. I know I've heard this version before, but I think there's another that I'm more familiar with. Will have to remember to look later. Anyway, this gets my BOS.

Keep 'em coming!
Let's get right to it.

Not arguing the legitimacy of either one, but I've heard the CSN version far more than the JA's, which is why it was nice to hear *this* one.

Glad you liked the Little Milton and Glen Campbell.  The CSN version of "Wooden Ships" has been played on 10@10, but not the JA version, so it was a given.

The Bill Deal/Rhondels song is a cover of The Tams' 1963 single.  An aside, Neil Young played guitar on The Monkees track, along with the Wrecking Crew.

The "Goodbye" I used is from the 1969 Apple single / her Apple greatest hits album.  I believe Mary rerecorded the song post-Apple (sometime in the mid-'70s), which might be what you remember.

Keep 'em coming!

In the pipeline: 1980, 1977, 1968, 1975, 1998, and a San Francisco-themed set.

Here's a question for anyone listening... Do you prefer knowing the tracklisting ahead of time, or would you prefer I hold back that info for a day or so until you get to listen?  Let me know.

I listened to this set again and couldn't get over how much that voice sounded like Fred Willard, so I did a little poking around and found that, among the regular players on This Is Tom Jones in 1969, was the comedy troupe The Ace Trucking Company, who counted among its members Fred Willard and also Patti Deutsch, who later appeared on later season Laugh-In episodes, and has done loads of voice work in the ensuing years.

I was also impressed by the roster of guests who appeared on his show more than once--Glen Campbell, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Dave Clark Five, Moody Blues, the Hollies, Peter Noone, Sandie Shaw, Mary Hopkin (TANC), and Dusty Springfield, among others. A collection of clips from this show would be worth seeking out, at least as a Netflix rental to watch a time or two.

Normally I'd say I'd prefer to be surprised and not know what's coming next. But in the case of your sets, since so much of them are deep tracks I probably couldn't name without a list to consult, I think I like having a list to refer to. But if someone else would prefer not to have the spoilers, I'm OK with that too -- I can relate.

I went back to look at the video, and, you're right, it is Fred Willard!

I think I misidentified a different actor in the bit that I used.

Not to mention Janis Joplin, Wilson Pickett, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Bee Gees... It's a shame he couldn't have Elvis on his show -- now that would made for great TV!

Best. 1980. Set. EVAH. I actually saw the Jags at the Bottom Line when that song was the New Wave "flavor of the month" on WNEW-FM. And I still have the Blotto EP.
