Was that Fred Willard in the This is Tom Jones clip?
No, it wasn't. I'm not sure who it actually is.
I listened to this set again and couldn't get over how much that voice sounded like Fred Willard, so I did a little poking around and found that, among the regular players on
This Is Tom Jones in 1969, was the comedy troupe The Ace Trucking Company, who counted among its members Fred Willard and also Patti Deutsch, who later appeared on later season Laugh-In episodes, and has done loads of voice work in the ensuing years.
I was also impressed by the roster of guests who appeared on his show more than once--Glen Campbell, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Dave Clark Five, Moody Blues, the Hollies, Peter Noone, Sandie Shaw, Mary Hopkin (TANC), and Dusty Springfield, among others. A collection of clips from this show would be worth seeking out, at least as a Netflix rental to watch a time or two.
In the pipeline: 1980, 1977, 1968, 1975, 1998, and a San Francisco-themed set.
Here's a question for anyone listening... Do you prefer knowing the tracklisting ahead of time, or would you prefer I hold back that info for a day or so until you get to listen? Let me know.
Normally I'd say I'd prefer to be surprised and not know what's coming next. But in the case of your sets, since so much of them are deep tracks I probably couldn't name without a list to consult, I think I like having a list to refer to. But if someone else would prefer not to have the spoilers, I'm OK with that too -- I can relate.
