Follow-up on the taxbrain.com "IRS Making You Want To Join the NRA?" campaign. I emailed BART the other day to complain and got this reply:
Ads are reviewed by the contracted ad agency that handles advertising in the bay area in both the public transit industry and out in general. They comply with standards that have been established for public transit advertising, and in BART we also exclude any ads that advocate alcohol and pornography.
This ad seemed to have applied a tongue-in-cheek humor as many individuals may apply in any variety of situations. However, given the coincidental timing of its display and the eventual incident of a couple weeks back, the client's catch line suddenly reflected in a different light. Please note that right after that, BART requested the ad agency to remove all copy of that ad.
Corporate doublespeak, but hey, they're (supposedly) removing those ads. In the time since I first posted, I've googled the phrase and found that several people have Tweeted about it, but nothing approaching a major mention in the press. SFist apparently ignored the tip I sent them about it.
