Campaign 2012
« on: September 09, 2011, 02:25:01 PM »
It's never too early. And with all those wacky Repug candidates battling it out already, I figured they (and the prez) dereved their own thread apart from the "Right Wing" and "Left Wing" ones.  To start us off, this bit of Huntsman hilarity:

If I had a choice, and was told the outcome would be a GOP president, I guess I'd choose Hunstsman, just because he doesn't seem batshit crazy like the rest of them. Jeez, could the stakes be any higher this time?

This is just nuts -- remember, these are the same people who crucified the Dixie Chicks for dissing Dubya...

My new hero: Ben Mankiewicz.  Watched him for years on TCM (and on that awful incarnation of At the Movies where he was teamed with Ben Lyons in an attempt to skew younger) and never knew what his politics were. But lo, he's turned up on Cenk Uygur's "Young Turks" show on Current as part of the lineup of talking heads and he's quite impressive. Apparently he's been doing stuff with Uygur on radio and internet for some time. News to me!

couple thoughts after the (apparently) successsful (so far) anti-SOPA campaign...

(a) if the Tea Party and OWS can agree on this issue, what's the next step?  Or is there a next step?

(b) I note that many of the folks who suddenly changed their minds (Orrin Hatch, Marco Rubio, Dan Quayle's idiot son) are right-wing Repugs.  Is the GOP more afraid of the Teatards than the Dems are of OWS?

My take is that SOPA/PIPA isn't much of a partisan issue, but more of a money issue. Most of the times campaign contributors get the laws and regulations they want without anyone paying much attention. But because of the well-orchestrated publicity campaign, and especially because there are some mega companies on the other side of SOPA/PIPA, congresspeople got caught trying to push through their special interest BS and had to back away.

And yet another artist sues yet another GOP hopeful for using a song without permission. But seriously -- thie idea of Mitt Romney using this particular tune is beyond hilarious. Another case (like Reagan using "Born in the USA") where a staffer heard the title and thought it sounded patriotic but didn't bother to actually, y'know... LISTEN TO THE SONG.  Sample lyric: "So many wars, settling scores/Bringing us promises, leaving us poor" Oh yeah, I bet Mitt can get right behind that...

Ya know, as much as I hate Newt, it's Santorum that really scares me. He's W without a sense of humor. And I mean that literally.

yeah -- Newt for better or worse has had a lot of his moral shortcomings exposed for all to see. Santorum strikes me as another guy who has deep dark secrets. As most folks who can't shut up about "morality" usually do.
