Did anyone pick Cust up yet?  I saw that yesterday and for whatever reason I dreamed about it last night.  don't ask me why.

damn, Mark, I wish *I* could have dreams about Jack Cust! ;)

My dream was centered around me (!?) trying to help Cust land a new team.  Maybe I was an agent, maybe I was just a guy with an opinion...the dream was a little vague.  I distinctly remember saying that I didn't think it would work out with the Cards, but that's about as coherent as it got.  I'm not even sure if there was a Jack Cust character present in the dream.  I wouldn't be able to pick him out of a crowd if he wasn't in uniform.

Good news after all: the A's re-signed Cust for a year. So I have another season to drool over him in person.

Dammit, I'm already out of teams to root for in the playoffs.  Bye, Eagles; bye, Pats.  Guess I'll rah for the Saints since Brees and others seem to be fine folks and NoLa deserves some good news.

some lopsided games there; but this GB/AZ contest is heading to OT as I type after the Cards kicker blew a field goal.

I only got to watch the Saturday games, but my goodness.  Warner was 29-33 for 379yds and 5 TD's.  That was just sick!  More TD's than incompletions!?

Not only that, Derek Jeter is reportedly getting married in November.

Quite the day for unlikely occurrences, eh?
Let's get right to it.

I'd never heard of Minka Kelly before

but she plays a cheerleader on Friday Night Lights, even tho' she's 29. Her dad is former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay and her mom was a Las Vegas showgirl (!). She previously dated John Mayer -- but then who hasn't? Interestingly, Jeter denied being engaged as recently as November.

Mark McGwire (finally) comes clean:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/01/11/sports/s120756S27.DTL&tsp=1

That stale fart can shove his fauxpology.  ESPN.com's Howard Bryant offers a nice response, key graf below.

Quote
The most uncomfortable portion of McGwire's statement came when he said he wished he "had never played during the steroid era," as though he were swept up in a certain institutional momentum. The truth is that by using in 1989, McGwire was central to creating the steroids era. He is, even more so than Barry Bonds, the most pivotal figure in the history of his time. He was the first person to demonstrate the rewards of the new culture, and was evasive and unapologetic about it.

in a bit of a surprise, the Giants re-sign Bengie Molina after all: a one-year deal, after he and the Mets gave up on each other, apparently
