a fine show, but the good memories are corrupted by their interaction with Phil Collins.

This isn't that recent, but I just saw it yesterday.  Have you guys heard about Diet Coke & Mentos??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAkbv5hkqr8

There are several other clips about this, make sure you see the stuff in the second minute of this clip.

Are the Mentos necessary?  Seems like if you shake up a 2l bottle of Coke (and why's it need to be diet?) and slam it, that's going to be the result any which way . . .

On the other hand, at least that's three less bottles of soda for hyperactive kids to guzzle down . . .

See some of the other clips.  If you drop a Mentos into an inert bottle of Diet Coke (cap off) within one second it will start shooting foam ten feet in the air.

If that's the vid I think it is, the brother of one of the guys in it works at CNET. And yes, the mentos work as some sort of catalyst--which begs the question why would you ever eat them?
Let's get right to it.

I now want to incorporate this in my science classes!  I think the mentos are probably reacting with the diet coke, but I don't know the reaction.
Don't stand in the way of LOVE!

Well, it turns out there are far more Diet Coke & Mentos videos than I dreamed possible. But this is the one I was talking about. And it makes all the other ones weep:

Kind of like that OK Go vid I posted last week except with carbonated beverages and mint candy.
Let's get right to it.

Thank you all for re-instilling my faith in science.  Un-friggin'-believable.  Even better than Peeps In A Microwave!
