By the by, have the rest of you heard Jack Webb's cover of "Try a Little Tenderness"?  I have it on the first Golden Throats comp.
Hear it now:

still better than Tim Robbins in Bull Durham. "Women don't get *woolly* ya moron!"

And if ya don't know the famous rumors about Mr Webb, I'll happily expound.

Oh my.  Did someone Jack Webb?

The rumor (I got this from Alex Bennett years ago, no idea if it's ever been confirmed) was that Mr Webb liked boys -- very young boys. And that due to his Dragnet fame he was beloved by the LAPD, who covered up for him and made certain things disappear. The Jack Vincennes character in LA Confidential (played by Kevin Spacey in the movie) was supposedly inspired by this.

hmm, I'm dubious.   I don't think that (even) the LAPD would allow this to happen without a little "payback."  Not sure if prosecuting for child molestation was commonplace back then -- maybe the charge would have been "indecency" or something...?  Of course, maybe Jack Webb did get the hell beaten out of him up over these alleged incidents, but seriously, why haven't more folks come forward with confirmation of this?

ETA: Now I will believe any rumor you float about Kevin Spacey!  I recall a story a few years back where he got mugged in a London Park at about 3 AM.  He couldn't sleep, so he took a stroll...  yeah, that's it.

Bwahahaha!

same deal with Dick Button, the figure skater and ABC Sports commentator, who back in the '80s got beat up really bad in Central Park, where he was jogging... at 3am... near "The Ramble", Central Park's notorious gay cruising area.

oh how lovely!  BOS5 the fabulous underrated Troggs.
Didn't they do "Cups and Cakes" too?  And "Listen to the Flower People".

Haha, nice.

"Jennifer Juniper" is just too precious for me.

if someone wrote it today I'd agree -- but dude it was the SIXTIES!
But it's got bassoon, oboe, flute and harp in it!  And possibly some guy playing the spoons.

I'm picturing a Donovan recording session.  "Hurdy-Gurdy Man, meet Spoon Man.  Spoon Man, meet Hurdy-Gurdy Man."

This was an especially entertaining convo today.  Thanks, everyone; I needed it.

Donovan and Soundgarden, together at last!
