This set is hewing pretty close to Morey territory. Dave never played Grazing in the Grass in a Strictly Instrumental set, but lord knows we heard it in plenty of '68 sets.

And is this Herb Alpert? So we've gone from guitar whizzes to trumpet tunes? Maynard Ferguson next?

always thought this was Herb saying "screw you, Chuck Mangione!" -- CM's "Feels So Good" was a hit on Alpert's label the year before. But "Rise", er, rose higher.

ETA: I wonder if he was chagrined that this was such a big hit.  The trumpet part is really the weakest part of the whole song, and doesn't show him off much.

Sounds like we're gettin' the l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g version. Digging the slinky guitar part that's weaving thru the background on this track. Serious BOS potential here, unless my request turns up in the next four songs.

SRV Jeff Beck, of course.  Well, this was a pleasant set, if a bit snoozy.  Nothing really earth-shattering, bustout-wise (read: none of my requests got played).

I'm not a Jeff Beck fan, but this, "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" (right?) is one of my two favorites, along with "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat", which would be great to hear here.

Yep, exactly. This is the tune that he did with Aussie bass wunderkind Tal Wilkenfeld that was posted somewhere here a few months back.

When I first moved here, I worked with a youngish guy who loved Satriani. When I told him JS sounded a lot like Jeff Beck, he said (you're way ahead of me) "Who's Jeff Beck?"

Oooh, strong finish with Allman Brothers' "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed".  A great tune that's fun to play.
