Hit Me Baby One More Time!
« on: May 10, 2005, 12:19:13 PM »
No, it's got nothing to do with Britney...

A current hit show on British TV is "Hit Me Baby One More Time", which brings back washed-up, er, older acts who haven't had a hit in ages. Five acts per week, they perform and then the audience votes for their fave, Idol-style.

There's an American version coming to NBC this summer... 3DN anyone?

Regardless of what the show's like, whoever designed its logo should be drummed out of the design biz permanently--it's practically illegible. If it were typed out, it would look like:

Hit m more
< >< > e 1 time
baby

ETA: OK, that came out even more illegibly than the logo itself, but you get the idea.
Let's get right to it.

Ultra Nate never went away! She still does the Pride circuit every summer with the likes of CeCe Peniston and Sybil!

Please note that in Ep 3, Carol Decker of T'Pau defeated Nick Heyward. Infer from that what one must. :x

I think that's exactly why she's considered washed up... Oh, I guess that's what you meant.

Update: They're bringing this to America this summer. Sophie B. Hawkins is among the participants, which saddens me a bit -- I hope she's not going to have one of those hyper-melismatic ballads foisted upon her.

Update update: per EW, the lineup for this Thurs' (6/2/05) premiere includes

Billy Ray Cyrus
Tiffany
Wang Chung
Loverboy (will they wear the red leather pants?)
Tommy Tutone (will they wear the red leather neckties?)
Cameo (will he wear the read leather codpiece?)

BTW, re: Sophie B., I thought the idea is that they sing their old hits, to see if they've still "got it", no?

They sing their best-known hit, and in the second round they sing a contemporary song in the modern idiom. That's how they see if they've "got it." It would be intriguing if these weren't real people. With no money in their coats, we can't say they never tried. But ain't it time we said goodbye?

Yikes. So we'll get Cameo covering Usher? Tiffany doing Britney? More residuals for Diane Warren?

I'm watching the show as I write this -- I sure hope Gaz got to see it!

Good gawd -- Tiffany has quite a rack! the lineup (besides her): Loverboy, Flock o'Seagulls, CeCe Peniston and Arrested Development. Ms Peniston still has her voice, as does (surprisingly) Loverboy's Mike Reno. But having them do current covers... I dunno. Arrested Development doing Los Lonely Boys' "Heaven"?

Yes, Tiffany has 'growed up' indeed. Arrested Development are the best by far, but what the hell do I know?

Watching Grateful Dead Movie on 9 during the many commercial breaks.

Guess you know a lot -- they won.

Next week: The Knack and (gulp) Haddaway, among others.
