I'm gone fishing the 16th thru the 20th, but if we can set up a club get-together in the second half of your visit, I am most definitely in!

my personal fave is Ton Kiang (Geary betw 22nd & 23rd), pricey but superb. My fave Chinatown hole-in-the-wall is Dol Ho at 808 Pacific.  And way out on Balboa is Shanghai Dumpling King for a cheap pig-out. Are you gonna be here the same week as Gaz? 

Agree completely with Mike on Ton Kiang and Shanghai Dumpling--both great. Also recommend Yank Sing if you're downtown (they're in Rincon Center at 101 Spear) but they're pricey (Ton Kiang can be too, although less so than YS). And whatever you do, try not to go to Ton Kiang around midday on a Sunday--they're always jammed.

Happy to oblige on that score, even though BBQ is not exactly low-salt low-fat.  I'll just have to take a longer bike ride afterwards!

I haven't bought my tix or reserved a hotel room, but that's indeed my vacation time.  I hope to accompany on these gustatory adventures!

TANC indeed.  A FB friend of mine in the East Bay has been posting some interesting foodie stuff lately.  I got turned on to Strauss Creamery ice cream, and am now interested in finding out about this super trendy Blue Bottle coffee:

Blue Bottle is pretty good, and pretty expensive.   a handmade cup of drip (maybe 12 oz) will cost you $2.52 at the Blue Bottle Cafe (Mint Plaza).  it's a very precious place w big lines.

I somehow missed these...



Never saw them at the store; yes, they're basically blue Hostess Sno-Balls. Blue-balls, if you will.  I've seen the pink ones, the green St Patrick's Day version, yellow for easter and orange for Halloween. But never blue. Now if they'd do lavender for Pride Day we'd have the whole rainbow!

ETA: damn, they also had blue-frosted cupcakes! (Turns out both were only available at Wal-Mart. Bastards!)

So, Hurt Locker is called Tierra Hostil over there? "Hostile Ground"? That's pretty good -- nobody in this country knew what "hurt locker" meant, anyway.
