The San Mateo part is interesting. Dave's email is now probably dmorey@cumulus.com. Irish Greg sent out an email announcing his email addy change.

I think today was the day Cumulus (sp?) formally took over Susquehana.
just switched over to the Bone (for Little Steven) and heard their new top o' the hour ID: "KSAN, San Mateo -- a Cumulus station".

I got an email from Greg, saying he had a new email address; cumulus, changed from kfog.com

also had hundreds of visible emails in message;  tsk tsk, poor netiquette!

Their webmaster still has some work to do--the mailto link on Dave's "airstaff" page still has the KFOG domain name.
Let's get right to it.

Not quite sure why they would change the email addresses.  It sounds either egotistical on cumulus' part, or they're going to change the call letters.

I got that email too. Dave's could also be dave.morey@...

But The Bone's "legal ID" has always said "KSAN San Mateo", it's their city of license.

per Ben Fong-Torres in Sunday's Chron:

Whatever happened to John Grappone: The DJ, who was a steady voice on KFOG, "the Bone," "The Drive" and others, moved to Portland, Ore., and is doing weekends on KINK-FM, a KFOG-like station that streams at www.kink.fm. Grappone hosts a free-form show, "Underground Link," Friday nights, and "Acoustic Sunrise" Sunday mornings

I was just reminiscing about Grappone a couple of days ago.  Portland is a nice place to live.  I've got a very good buddy up there.

WABC Rewind
« Reply #217 on: May 18, 2006, 06:19:57 AM »
Mostly of interest to Mike, perhaps to others:

http://www.wabcradio.com/Article.asp?id=122822&spid=

WABC Rewound....only one station can pull this off - Memorial Day, May 29th -12 Hours of Radio History!
For most radio stations, replaying something they did 30 years ago or more would simply be boring. For WABC it is a major annual event. WABC's Rewound returns for the 8th straight year on Memorial Day. From 6am to 6pm WABC will air the old aircheck of the Musicradio77 hey day that rocked the New York area for two decades. Once we were rockin' but now we're talkin'.  WABC was the most listened to radio station in the world in those years, and became a part of our childhood. On Memorial day, you get a chance to relive it one more time. In a bit of radio magic,  WABC will bring back the voices of the greats like Dan Ingraham, Cousin Brucie, Harry Harrison,  and Bob Lewis!

WABC production director Johnny Donovan produces this annual walk through the memories,  assisted by WABC engineer Frank D'Elia. Both Johnny and Frank worked for WABC on those golden years. Johnny was a disc jockey while Frank worked the control board. Today,  both still work side by side at WABC with Johnny becoming the legendary voice of NewsTalk Radio WABC.  Johnny works with radio historians like Peter Kanze and Rob Frankel to dust off the old tapes and airchecks that people have saved from the 60's and 70's. Johnny "re-masters"  the tapes,  and listeners get to hear them almost exactly as they did back in those days.

As we have done from the beginning,  WABC works with Allan Sniffen's message board and website:  www.musicradio77.com. In fact, it was the popularity of this site that gave current WABC Program Director, Phil Boyce, and ABC Radio President, Mitch Dolan, the idea to try this seven years ago. Once again, WABC will work with Sniffen on the message board, so listeners all over the world can share their memories of the radio station they grew up with.

As an added bonus this year, WABC's Mark Simone will host a post-rewound special from 6-8pm.  Mark now hosts the popular Saturday Night Oldies show on WABC on Saturdays from 6-10pm.  He will bring back some of his interviews on that show over the last few months. Take a look at the chart below for the hourly breakdown of this year's WABC Rewound. Memorial day is a time to remember. Join us for this special blast from the past, right here on the same radio station you grew up with, 77 WABC!

latest KNBR casualty: John Shrader, reporter and fill-in host was let go. Guess that means the KFOG morning show will need a new "Lord of the Pigskin" this fall...

Now, granted, a New Times newspaper berating a media conglomerate for firing people is the ultimate Pot-Calling-The-Kettle, but this is still a interesting article in SF Weekly about KNBR:

Wow.  This is so similar to what's happened with the Village Voice this year, it's almost scary.  I wonder if that irony is lost on them.
