I heard it around 7PM last night.  Sounds good, but AM signal is not that great out my way.

it's a crappy signal, and it gets even crappier when they switch to lower power after sundown!  Sounds decent enough in the car, tho. worth the effort to hear their way cool mix of stuff.

on my way to work I heard this:

11:02am   Eric Clapton   Willie And The Hand Jive
10:56am   Hellecasters   Peter Gunn
There was a Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks song not listed they played before this.  A great example of the diversity I miss.

nice piece in yestrday's Chron (special interest for Gaz) on Energy 92.7, the dance station, and how gay-friendly it is:

Glad it's a welcoming atmosphere, but ... "Greg the Gay Sportscaster"?  Does anyone really want to go through life being known that way?  I guess being a market segment is better than being a pariah ...

Also, this should be interesting:

Quote
Looking to replace its "Dog House" morning show, which was dropped over some offensive remarks allegedly made by its hosts, KYLD (Wild 94. 9) has promoted from within, naming evening DJ and South Bay native Strawberry to take over, along with Fay Carmona, in from Miami. Although the station expects the new crew to be more listener- and community-friendly than the one before, owner Clear Channel has hired producer Rick Delgado, fired earlier this year from a station in New York after writing a song mocking victims of the Indo-Asian tsunami and using racist epithets to describe Asians. He should be a perfect fit here in the Bay Area ...

I remember the tsunami song; it was horrendous.  Nice to know folks like Delgado are rewarded for their work.   :x

I haven't heard the guy, so I don't know if he's doing schtick (e.g. Sports a la Carson Kressley, which would totally suck IMHO) or if he's a standard-issue sports guy who happens to be gay, which would be far more revolutionary.

Tonite, courtesy of Dick Bartley, I finally got to hear ? & the Mysterians original version of "I Can't Get Enough of You Baby", later covered by Colourfield and (most recently) Smash Mouth.  It was one of the Mysterians' follow-ups to "96 Tears" and sure enough that "Tears" Farfisa organ riff makes an appearance.

Now playing: Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson, "Lovers Holiday". God Bless Mr Bartley, long may he wave.

Thanks for reminding me how embittered I am that his show isn't syndicated in the NYC market.  Used to be, but no more.   :x

There is a station in CT that runs him -- Kool ninetysomething-point-something. If you can get a friend with a car to take a drive on a Sat nite (offer to buy dinner) out to mid-north shore LI, where the station comes in loud and clear, you can get yer Bartley fix.  Sounds like a hot date to me!

On the other hand, you do get to hear Felix Hernandez and Vin Scelsa.

Listening to KPIG this afternoon, everything from "Don't Bogart That Joint" (!) to Randy Newman's "Last Nite I had a Dream".  Amazing stuff.

Hey Geoff, I know you listen to Air America alot... I didn't know Steve Earle has a weekly show on AA (apparently The Quake runs it on Sun nite). Have you heard it? I was wondering if the topic of his selling "Revolution Starts Now" to Chevy came up on the show.

I hadn't heard it much.  I mainly listen to Al  Franken and Randi Rhodes (the goddess of radio), but I was very aware of his show, so it seemed especially odd to me hearing the music on the Chevy ad.

Today on the Felix Hernandez Rhythm Revue (hey, it's "local radio" to me) I heard, for the first time, Stevie Wonder's original version of "Until You Come Back to Me," as well as the original recording of "Worst That Could Happen."  Done by ... wait for it ... THE FIFTH DIMENSION!  I had no idea.  Sounds VERY similar to the Brooklyn Bridge hit version, only not so legato.
