eek: hour 2 begins with WOS1: Crapton's lethargic cover of "Willie and the Hand Job"

VHM Paul & Odia at their Marvin'n'Tammiest

The real Neil D works on his "Longfellow". Heh. VHM.

uber-BOS4 Gladys, with a song in her heart. "He makes me feel just like a WOM-un/Something that you could never do!" Ouch.

BOS5, the Woofa Toofa Goofa Loofa, "Must of flunked English"

VHM the Polish Prince. "Oh, ja moja droga jacie kocham:" Or something.

WOS2 Ringo's lethargic cover of "Only You". Whatever posessed him?

BOS6 Elvis, workin' on a T-Bone steak, alla carty

Hour 3 begins with the Pointers' delightful, countrified "Fairy Tale". BOS7.  If Loretta Lynn never covered this... she shoulda.

Chaka and Rufus gots the love, yo. VHM.

Always a BOS( 8 ) for Macca, down on the farm.

EJ in the sky with Dr Winston O Boogie.

BOS9 Al Green "Sha La La"

This week That '70s Casey will be the all-Xmas countdown from Dec 1971:

And Casey's '80s visits Dec 18th 1982:

I remember listening to this one in '71. Hard to believe they couldn't find a copy of "Snoopy's Xmas", just 4 years after it charted.

"some folks call 'em green onions but they're really scallions" -- BOS "Xmas Dragnet"

Harry Belafonte's "Mary's Boy Child" was the first millkion-seller in UK chart history -- no wonder Boney M covered it.

"I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" -- man, talk about a song where every subsequent cover version is better than the original.

For the next 2 weekends, That '70s Casey offers stations a choice between a 2-part "Top 100 of 1978" (which has aired before, and contains dozens of butchered "short" versions of many of the songs) and a 2-part "Top 80 songs of 1970" which I sure hope I get to hear. Magic 98 is running the '78 shows.

Casey's '80s offers a 2-part "Top 100 of 1987".

CKRU is doing '78; CKWS has 1970, which is what I'm listening to. Zho Co-KAIR sends a letter; Ike & Tina take ya higher; Mountain meet a Mississippi queen.

OMFG: Bobbi Martin, "For the Love of Him" -- talk about a song you never hear any more.

Nothing like a little Saturday morning BJ. (Thomas, that is). And speaking of gay sex: Ronnie Dyson.

Come on the risin' wind/We're goin' up around the binned.

It's a groovy situation, sez Mr Chandler. JT disagrees -- his gf just slashed her wrists.

Mark Lindsay reads us an Aesop's Fable, anything to make us stay-ay-ayyyy.

and the Gaz-tastic portion of the countdown continues with the Carpenters, Brotherhood of Man, and Friends of Distinction

Nice extra: S&G "Keep the Customer Satisfied", as Bridge Over Troubled Water was the #1 LP of 1970.

Frijid Pink -- another one you never hear anymore.

This really is a delightful chart: Watts 103rd St Band followed by Bobby Sherman.

The Watts 103rd make a 2nd appearance -- oddly, "Loveland" finished higher for the year than "Express Yo'self".

Also making an encore: S&G

And the Top 100 of '87 kicks off with a recap of the #1 songs of the years '80 thru '86.

Fun so far. Hadn't heard the Pseudo Echo cover of "Funkytown" in quite a while.

early WOS Cutting Crew's *other* hit; WOS2 Kenny Loggins meeting us halfway. To hell. Ditto Lionel Ritchie's "Ballerina Girl". Oy.

ooo! BOS1 Breakfast Club "Right on Track"

The Top 40 of 1970 begins with another of Tony Burrows' many incarnations that year: Edison Lighthouse.   Is there actually a lighthouse in Edison, NJ?

Sugarloaf were originally named "Chocolate Hair"?  ROTFL!

Bobby Sherman was "discovered" by Sal Mineo, nudgenudge winkwink. (at a party also attended by Roddy McDowall? Are you kidding?  oh girlfriend, puh-LEEZE!)

Proxy of Gaz: The Poppy Family.

BOS TO & Dawn's still-glorious "Candida"

A nice surprise for this week's That '70s Casey: The Top 50 songs of the 1970s, (originally broadcast Jan 1980):

Every song on this chart is a former #1.  Carly takes her apricot yacht gavotte for a trot. And why not?

Casey's '80s visits 1981:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/01-10-81.pdf

Mj and his brothas meet Sefra and Sue -- ev'ry gurl dat ah knew!

BOS1 Michael Stanley Band sounding a lot like Rick Springfield -- months before "Jessie's Girl" woukl chart.

Despite the fact that this is the dawn of the "adult-contempo" era of Top 40 radio, a very enjoyable chart so far: Donna Summer's forgotten "Cold Love", H&O's Righteous Bros cover, ABBA takes it all, and Babs is a woman in lurve.

ooo! Tierra's sweet cover of "Together".

ooo! ooo! the Korgis, "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime".

This week That '70s Casey visits Jan 20th 1973:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/01-20-73.pdf

this is really a fabulous chart with tons of forgotten gems that oldies stations never play. It's also a rather sledgehammery collection for me, given the date (my mom died 2 weeks later) but still I'm looking forward to Saturday.

and Casey's '80s is from Jan 19th 1985:

Indeed, once you go outside the Top 10, only 15, 18, 24, 25 and 31 would I describe as being familiar.

And from the 1985 chart I count 24 songs which I'd love to hear on a 1984 or 1985 10@10 that have been completely, or at least mostly, absent:

Mistake #3
In Neon
Sugarwalls
No More Lonely Nights
Misled
Bruce (!)
Jungle Love
I Feel For You
Operator
Solid
Love Light In Flight
Out Of Touch
Method Of Modern Love
Neutron Dance
Valotte
Do What You Do
Jamie
Loverboy
Cool It Now
We Belong
Wild Boys
Easy Lover
All I Need
Like A Virgin
