The 5 PM 80's AT 40 on JACK-FM (Baltimore) screwed up royally. They went to commercial after "Sweetheart", did the extra "The Greatest American Hero" and returned years later with Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me".

ETA: After Madonna's "La Isla Bonita", they went to commercials and returned with Gino Vannelli at #6, skipping 7-10. This was obviously the stations mistake. The 8 PM 80's AT 40 had the entire show from 1981 intact and didn't add two songs from a 1987 chart.

The question about the acapella songs that hit the top 40. Casey said only two hit the top 40. Would future Billy Joel hit "The Longest Time" count?

By jove, I think you're right! And also the Nylons' '87 remake of "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"

Only two a capella songs have charted since those two, IIRC: Boyz II Men's cover of "In the Still of the Nite," and Shai's sadly forgotten "If I Ever Fall in Love Again."

Yeah it was quite the messup.  Whoever downloaded really messed up.  I switched to KCLH in LaCrosse WI to hear the songs WQSR didn't play.

"Sukiyaki" by A Taste of Honey has to be one of the worst remakes ever.  Not quite as grating as "Boogie Oogie Oogie" but wretched nevertheless!

I didn't know there was one for LaCrosse. I had to listen to the last 3 hours from the Fargo station (audio quality isn't too good. The Baltimore one is very good).

This week's Klassik Kasem heads-up:

The '70s version will be from June 4th 1977

And the '80s version is from June 5th 1982

Too bad I'll be out of town; several NTMs and long-forgottens in this set, including 5/6 of the opening:

40:    PERSONALLY – KARLA BONOFF
39:    MURPHY’S LAW - CHERI
38:    FRIENDS IN LOVE – DIONNE WARWICK AND JOHNNY MATHIS
37:    FORGET ME NOTS – PATRICE RUSHEN
36:    I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START – EDDIE RABBITT
35:    BREAK IT UP - FOREIGNER

'77, on the other hand, can be safely ignored; we just heard most of those a few weeks ago.

I asked this when Broooce did it and I ask again as Manfred Mann debuts at #40 with "Spirit in the Night" -- WTF is a "soul fairy band"? Little Richard?

and here's Marie Osmond with the "Love Hangover" knockoff Gaz featured on his blog recently.

uber-BOS one of my all-time Noo Yawk faves, "Ariel" -- tears on my pillow and Ave Maria.  Casey, it was pronounced "air-ee-EL", not "AIR-ee-ul". She's a girl, not an antenna.

WOS Kenny Nowwan, "Wuv's Gwown Deep".

"Do ya wanna make love... or do ya just wanna fool around?" One of my favorite lines of the decade. BOS2 Peter McCann, who also wrote "Right Time of the Night".

VHM Glen Campbell with the whitest Allen Toussaint cover EVAH.

Nice where-are-they-now feature on Barbara Lewis, who did the orig "Hello Stranger", followed by Mr Miller with funky kicks goin' down in the shitty, er, city.

KFRC screws up yet again and plays last week's show. Not a complaint, exactly -- any show with the loooong versions of both "Taxi" and "Walking in the Rain..." ain't bad -- but jeez, who's in charge over there?
