Dude! she's a DUDE!  If you'd told me in '75 that Queen's ode to a, um, queen would end up an overplayed Classic Rock staple I'd've fainted dead away.

OMFG! another Canadian "extra": Gino Vanelli's '80s comeback attempt, the unfairly forgotten "Black Cars"!

and speaking of unfairly forgotten -- do even Lite Rock stations play Mr Manilow's delightful "It's a Miracle" any more?  VHM just because.

Casey's career retrospective on producer Rick Hall was quite the eye-opener. Too bad Rick ended up helming hits by Paul Anka, whose whiny "I Don't Like To Sleep Alone" gets a WOS3.

Most Scarily Prophetic Lyric of the Day: Karen Carpenter in "Only Yesterday" sings "in my own time nobody knew/the pain I was goin' thru..."

another early heads-up: Casey's '70s this week visits May 3rd 1975:

and the '80s version is from May 3rd 1986:

Wow. I will missing two Casey's 80's shows in a row. I don't like 1986 nor 1988.

Which years do you look forward to?

I like 1980-early 1985.

Listening to '86 this morning, I have no memory of Honeymoon Suite's "Feel It Again."
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

I'd liked Julian Lennon's "Stick Around" when it came out, but 24 years later, it sounds rather awful.

BOS to Sade and the magnificent "Never as Good as the First Time."

VHM to John Taylor's "I Do What I Do," capturing the sexual energy of 9 1/2 Weeks.

Wow, I have no memory of Jermaine Jackson's "I Think It's Love" - but I dig it!  Simple lyrics, but infectious and kinda retro.

zhum zhum zibididi zhum zhum zibididi

Casey tells a great story about how Sly Fox's (beloved by many here) "Let's Go All the Way" failed as a single a year prior, then got a second chance when a (Houston?) program director put it back in rotation since, as he said, he needed an uptempo record to balance out the number of ballads then on the charts and still believed in this one.  Other PDs took note of the positive response to it and added it to their rotations, and it took off.

I never heard even a follow-up single from them, though.

BOS2 to an all-time favorite, Nu Shooz' "I Can't Wait."  Such pure joy coming out of the pores of this record.  Orange sunshine.  And as I've surely mentioned before, I was kinda crushing on both of them, Valerie Day seeming like she could've been a Head of the Class cast member.

I love it too, despite the cheesiest $39.95 Casio keyboard synth-line evah.

But I'm just starting the countdown in Canada. I feel nothing at all for Heart's "Nothing At All"

WOS1 Starship's "Tomorrow Doesn't Matter Tonight" -- as generic as '80s AOR sludge gets.

I don't remember this one at all; thankfully I'll probably never hear it again.

VHM the Jets' cute first hit, "Crush on You"; BOS1 Cherrelle & Alexander O'Neal's fab "Saturday Love".
