Wow, 4 people here on a Sunday afternoon (or in your cases, morning).

i'll be logging off soon, though: Got a date with a priest.  That is, I'm going to church -- in honor of mom, and we have a standing yearly Easter date with some papists!  ;)

Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - 3/27/71
2: Me And Bobby Mcghee - Janis Joplin
Tink, the date of the chart is actually 4/3/71, and in #2 its "McGee."  After you make the corrections, I'll delete this post.  Thanks!
thanks, correx made.  no need to delete your posts, let's keep an accurate record of what went down here!  :)
also, I was using the info here: http://www.oldradioshows.com/at40/032771.html
... this guy's got lots of info, but now I think his dates might be off...?
Yes, I've known Walt and his Old Radio Show site for years. I've purchased some CDs of other old radio specials from him, but AT40 shows are not for sale.  Yes, I've noticed in his posts some spelling and other errors.  Everyone, check out http://www.oldradioshows.com/products.html

Just don't take part in any standing ovations when they defend the Pope (as happened last week in NYC).  :o

I'm glad to hear this 1947 Tex Williams "Smoke Smoke Smoke"!  I've only known the version by Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen from early 70's.

This Stevie Woods thing, which I barely remember, is like "Ride Like The Wind" meets "He's So Shy".

And even Lite-Rock stations have forgotten LRB's "Take it Easy on Me".

It was NTM, and I've never heard his other hit either.

Rod Stewart's "Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me)" was on the charts when I first heard the stomach-pumping urban legend.  I still associate the song with gaiety.

Yeesh: WOS Dr Hook, well past their sell-by date in 1982 with the dreadful "Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk".  For a better take on this subject, see Mel McDaniel's #1 Country hit from '85, "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On".

WOS to Dr. Hook, creeping me out on "Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk."  Maybe Baby farted.

Neil Diamond's "On the Way to the Sky" is NTM; it didn't make it onto the 2-CD GH comp I have.  (A shoddy comp it is, btw: many of the tracks are live versions, presumably due to licensing snags.)

I have that comp too (Columbia, yes?); had to buy the single-disc Neil Diamond Collection on MCA to have everything.

Sorry, Sister Sledge: your cover of "My Guy" is unnecessary. And I'd rather have a muscle-bound man than your wimpy boyfriend any day.

V-V-V-VHM B-B-B-Bobbie Sue, tho' country music's obsession with all things '50s long after the pop chart had moved on to '60s nostalgia has always puzzled me.

The Oak Ridge Boys' "Bobby Sue" is NTM.  I dare say I'll never hear it again.

nobody said it was easy to have to listen to AOR crapola like this LeRoux thing in the early '80s.

Yet another NTM: La Roux, "Looking for the Lights."  I don't hear a hit here.
