today's Politics Blog post about Rick Perry being criticised by some conservative re: homosex. And at work I'm on WE8.

Can you try a diff browser maybe?

BTW, I just noticed (for the first time today) that at the end of stories, in the little row of icons that include FB, Twitter, Pinterest etc, there's an  icon for "click to comment" -- but when i click it, nothing happens.

It looks like the Chronicle is trying to get people to pay again.  Jon Carrol columns at least now require a subscription to the service. Ironically (or maybe it was foreshadowing), a couple of recent columns mentioned media and the web and trying to find the profit model.

Is Stienstra on vacation or something?  I haven't seen his column in the Sunday Chron
the past two or three weeks.  Also MIA:  reader letters in the pink section.

I haven't read Jon Carroll since he went behind the pay wall at the beginning of 2015, except for occasionally when I picked up the print version.  Since he wasn't in the last print version I saw, I googled him - he retired in November.

Here's a slightly off topic thing.  I've recently noticed a rise in the use of "schadenfreude" in articles I've been reading on the net (mostly on Slate.com).  For instance, "liberal shadenfreude" at the demise of the Rebuplican party at the hands of Donald Trump.

Now here's the thing:  I just can't seem to add the word to my vocabulary!  It just won't stick.  I've looked it up in the distant past, the very recent past, and again today. 

It's driving me crazy.  Why can't I remember the meaning of this one freakin' word?

Maybe this should have gone in the "I'm trying to tell you something about my life" thread.

Out here in the hinterlands, a housemate has decided not to renew their subscription to
the Sunday Chronicle, as the price as risen to $5.75 a paper ($75 for 13 weeks), delivered.
They can still tootle out to the local convenience store and pick one up for $3.30, tax included.

What are people in, and closer to, the big city paying for Sunday Chronicle delivery?

I agreed that rate was pretty steep, given the same delivery person also handles the BANG
papers (Murky News, etc.), the NYT, and (I think) the WSJ -- so the presumably lower subscription
density shouldn't be a big factor.
