Oh my.  Did someone Jack Webb?

The rumor (I got this from Alex Bennett years ago, no idea if it's ever been confirmed) was that Mr Webb liked boys -- very young boys. And that due to his Dragnet fame he was beloved by the LAPD, who covered up for him and made certain things disappear. The Jack Vincennes character in LA Confidential (played by Kevin Spacey in the movie) was supposedly inspired by this.

hmm, I'm dubious.   I don't think that (even) the LAPD would allow this to happen without a little "payback."  Not sure if prosecuting for child molestation was commonplace back then -- maybe the charge would have been "indecency" or something...?  Of course, maybe Jack Webb did get the hell beaten out of him up over these alleged incidents, but seriously, why haven't more folks come forward with confirmation of this?

ETA: Now I will believe any rumor you float about Kevin Spacey!  I recall a story a few years back where he got mugged in a London Park at about 3 AM.  He couldn't sleep, so he took a stroll...  yeah, that's it.
