Nineteen eighty-snooze.  Stumped on the "Superman" question.

The Clique, whose only Top 40 hit was their fab cover of Tommy James' "Sugar on Sunday", did the original version of "Superman".

Greg Allman followed by REM's "Superman". Quick, name the one-hit-wonder band who did "Superman" originally.

This topic is for me to post things done and said on Micky Dolenz's WCBS-FM morning show.

Which I was on today.

I won their trivia contest: They played an excerpt of someone attempting to croon the Beatles' "Something," and asked people to call in to guess the artist.  As it happens, I own that record (connoisseur of bad art that I am), so I called in and correctly identified it as Telly Savalas.  Micky returned the favor by playing "Who Loves You" afterwards.   :D
Congrats!  What's next?

Woo Hoo!  Was there an actual prize?

Folks on the NY radio message board continue to snipe at Micky's show. I'm not sure if the ratings have improved since he took over.

After an uneventful Jukebox on CG, I'm listening to Little Steven on-line, catching up with last week's show which I missed most of.  He just played Graham Parker's "Passion is no Ordinary Word" which I hadn't heard in years. Squeezing Out Sparks is one if the GREAT forgotten albums of that period, I am astounded it isn't a Morey staple, he's played maybe one track from it ("Local Girls") if memory serves.

The stream for Steven's show, BTW, is vastly improved, it used to cut out quite frequently but it's swell today.

from sfgate, an article about what Dubya's listening to.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2005/04/11/MNGQTC699Q1.DTL

Dave's compiling suggestions for songs that SHOULD be on Dubya's iPod, "for a possible 10@10 next week".  Which indicates maybe we're not getting either a Tax set this week or an Earth Day set next Friday?

apparently.  but when did CTD do BDE?

It's solo Brad Roberts live, on the CD Crash Test Dude, which got the worst review I've ever seen on Allmusic.com.

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE4781CD948AA7220C9813756C8AD53E10BDD44F6811C21461BD2B025548C0964E85DFBD0C4FDFE6AB578B0FD2EA45F43D2C0EB57F6DD672D5DF0&sql=10:o1u67ur030jk

Actually the review itself isn't that great, how can the following get past the copy editors: His version of Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" following a poem titled "Circumcision" is neither funny or ironic. It is plain pathetic.

Yoiks!  "Crash Test Drunkard" indeed!

Okay, to make the time with Kim C pass a little faster here's a little quiz: She got Bette Davis eyes, but what did she get from Jean Harlow & Greta Garbo (according to the lyrics)?

Her hair is Harlow Gold and she's got Greta garbo skin on her thighs.

METTY BAVIS DIEEESSS!

I just realized that I've always heard that line as "hollow gold," which makes no sense whatsoever but there you go.

per a Google search, there are versions of BDE by Gwynneth Paltrow (!)and Crash Test Dummies (!?!)

Is the former from the same film where she did "Cruisin'" at karaoke with Huey Lewis?

apparently.  but when did CTD do BDE?

remember the first time Dave played "Jessie's Girl"? remember how you thought it was a triumph for pop music geeks everywhere? And now it's "oh Gawd not Jessie's Girl again!"

another fave mondegreen from this song: I always thought she was saying "Greta Garbo's inner thighs" LOL! (it's "standoff sighs", BTW, according to the Top 40 db. WTF are standoff sighs?)
