Stream of Consciousness / Re: KFOG, But Not 10@10

To follow up, I can only guess that this means the geniuses realized that there are a lot of people like me, who - in the absence of Acoustic Sunrise - simply do not turn their radio on at all on a Sunday morning.

Pinfield actually stressed that it will be "a new and expanded Acoustic Sunrise."

I can see "expanded" meaning that it will go past 11 to 12 (with apologies to Nigel Tufnel), but "new" makes me wonder about the approved playlist.  We will still get Dixie the Tiny Dog?

In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / Re: RIP Prince, 57

TMZ's coverage is pretty thorough: http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/21/prince-dead-at-57/

I don't know how many of you've ever heard of Michael Franks, and even if so I'd doubt you know this particular song, "When Blackbirds Fly".  But not only is it very lovely, it is also - by the final verse - a poignant reflection on the brevity of our lives.

Also, like Ken Howard a few days earlier, she was a former SAG president.

Just catching up on this.  Very sad, always loved Shandling, and the Larry Sanders Show was pure unadulterated genius.

My favorite line of his doing stand up, opening his act:

So I'm from Phoenix, where a baby's first words are, "But it's a dry heat."

The day in 1968 when Grove, Gordon Moore (Moore's Law), and Robert Noyce (inventor of the integrated circuit) started Intel is marked by many as the birth of Silicon Valley.

KFOG's 10@10 / Re: 18 March 2016: it's... 1991

heard the first half in the car & was enjoying it very much.

I loves me some (actually just about any) Madchester.  Always wonder why songs like this Primal Scream one, Happy Mondays "Step On", Charlatans "The Only One I Know", and one or two by Stone Roses are NOT in the semi-regular KFOG rotation, especially the "Your Weekend KFOG" rotation.  For example why don't I hear them with roughly the same frequency as James "Laid"?

ETA:  So I tutor from 4-7 & get in my car to go home.  Turn the ignition & what is the first "Your Weekend KFOG" song that I hear?

James "Laid"

Ha!

I was 12 in 1974 when I first bought my first LP.  That record was Tarkus.

Everyone else in eighth grade was listening to John Denver, Elton John and and/or discovering the Beatles & Beach Boys for the 1st time, but I was proudly a prog rocker.  By 10th grade everyone was into disco, but not me.  By then I had all of ELP's records, almost all of Yes & the Moody Blues, King Crimson (when Greg Lake was still in the band), Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth, lots of Jethro Tull, early Alan Parsons, etc.  I mean I also liked the Who, Stones, etc...whatever was being played on St. Louis' legendary KSHE 95.  But especially ELP, which I always said, whenever asked, was my favorite band.

Very sad right now.

In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / RIP Peter Mondavi, 101

The Mondavi family bought the Charles Krug winery (the oldest in Napa) in 1943, and Peter ran it until he retired *last year* at the age of 100. This was my parents' favorite winery when I was born here 20 years later.  Robert Mondavi was the older brother who split off to start his own winery a couple years after that.

It used to be possible to stream old 10@10 shows from KFOG.com.  I went looking for yesterday's Year of the Monkey set, but can't find any of them on the website now.  Did I miss something?     :'(  :'(  :'(
