I've never been happier to be wrong!
VHM a true TOTHK -- "Love Train"
-
all those folks in Russia and China really need to get down.
-
And if ah was da President -- ah'd tell Joe Wilson to kiss mah black ass!
BOS Mr Simon, like a rock
-
hoodoo you think you're foolin'?

"It's a MOVIE!"
-
I always wondered if Paul Simon had some initial sympathy for Nixon in late '72, early '73 when he wrote this, or was the President vs. Congress thing just coincidental.
-
"Where were you in '62?"
VHM American Graffitti.

BOS Dr Hook -- sorry, Gaz.
-
I was trying to type fast enough to predict a Wolfman Jack twin-spin, but you'll just have to take my word for it.
-
wow, HM to Dr Hook's Cover of the Rolling Stone, which I had on a K-Tel Compilation. I was the two-minute version, of course.

Bryce canyon - an awesome place! A helluva place to lose a cow - as the owner rancher Mr. Bryce mentioned.
-
Two weeks until Loggins & Messina in Atlanta!

If you're referring to the Dr Hook record, I don't think that was the Wolfman at the beginning -- just a raspy-voiced band member.

Love is all around... on vinyl!
-
BOS2 MTM theme! Meow!
-
MTM spot the vinyl
-
"You are the sunshine of my life" could only have been a hit in the '70's That intro is way too groovy and complex for any other time zone.
-
BOS3 Stevie, Jim Gilstrap and Lani Groves.
-
BOS to Stevie Wonder - this is Sledgehammer from an episode of Taxi - Jim Ignatowski hugging his dead father's jacket he wrapped around a chair.
-
"You are the sunshine of my life" could only have been a hit in the '70's That intro is way too groovy and complex for any other time zone.
I still don't understand why the trumpets during the verses were removed for the radio version.
-
BOS4 Lou, Harry, Mark & John, "Satellite of Love" -- is this vinyl too?
-

i thought it was the other way around?

Tuned in just in time for this.
Never noticed different versions of "Sunshine" - huh?
Hoping for some Elton John.
-
Serious weirdness from Lou Reed. Is that David Bowie on the backing howls?
-
BOS5 Ringo's career peak. By all accounts, he's getting the most props from the re-issues. "Damn, I can really hear the drums!"
-
VHM to "Photograph," my second favorite of the Ringo singos next to "It Don't Come Easy."
-
Serious weirdness from Lou Reed. Is that David Bowie on the backing howls?
considering he produced it, I'd say yes.

One version has trumpets (not only in the verses, it just occurred to me), and the other version doesn't. I'm pretty sure it's the album version has trumpets. I'll check after the set.

George needs hope to help him cope with a #1 record. A material world, indeed.
-
Pre-jinx for the George Harrison twin-spin.
-
It's effectively a GH twin spin. BOS to "Give Me Love, Give Me a Riff from Dylan's 'I Want You'."
-
Pre-jinx for the the George Harrison twin-spin.
haha, well played!
-
BOS "Sattelite of Love", which was totally under my radar in the day...
-
in the movie Adventureland the smug dude tries to impress chicks by saying he once played guitar w Lou Reed on songs like "Shine a Light Of Love."
Our hero corrects him, and eventually wins the girl.
-
BOS5 Ringo's career peak. By all accounts, he's getting the most props from the re-issues. "Damn, I can really hear the drums!"
That's what Joel Selvin said when he was on the Morning Show yesterday helping them to review the reissues.
Greg said that back in the day Lennon was asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world, to which he allegedly replied, "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles."

Wow, that's pretty acid-tongued, even for John.

was thinking of Ringo's You're Sixteen this morning...
You're Sixteen,
You're beautiful and
You're mine.
a bit of an age discrepancy, no? unless he's talking about a dog, which would make 16 like 112 in dog years. Either way, eyebrows get raised.
-

bwahahaha! Hence my line about Seth McFarlane being "the biggest mediocre talent to become a millionaire since Ringo"
-
I could use a little more "Love & Happiness" in my life, how 'bout you all?
-
Sail on, sail on, sailor!
BOS.
-
BOS2 to "Sail On, Sailor." Think later I'll go revisit the Sweet-Rucker liver cover of this.
-
I could use a little more "Love & Happiness" in my life, how 'bout you all?
I was going to write "hear, here!" But I'm enjoying being a moody bastard these days. :) This too, shall pass.
-
BOS6 Rev. Al; BOS7 BBs -- sail on, Annalisa!
-
I could use a little more "Love & Happiness" in my life, how 'bout you all?
Oh christ yes. I could have filled several pages in the "I'm tryin' to tell you somethin' 'bout my life" thread in recent months.
-
BOS2 to "Sail On, Sailor." Think later I'll go revisit the Sweet-Rucker liver cover of this.
I hear Sweet-Rucker's liver is now in Steve Job's body.
Princess: being a moody bastard is an art -- I've been practicing it for years.

Is that what the Moody Blues are calling themselves these days? Big BOS for the Beach Boys.

bwahahaha!
I should have bwahahahaha'd this, too. We could have had another Jinx.
I've always liked this Sail On Sailor, never really knew why it didn't sound like typical Beach Boys. Now I know, thanks to wikipedia, that "Blondie" Chaplin sang lead:

I think that must have been an early quote, because I later heard Elton John say in an interview about working with Lennon on "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" (which had Jim Keltner on drums) that when he asked Lennon if he realized how lucky they were to get Keltner, Lennon replied to the effect that he'd already spent 8 years with the best drummer in the world.

I'd bet his Plastic Ono experience made him realize what he'd been taking for granted. "Instant Karma" has some horribly clunky drums.

No, I was going for a Walter Becker reference.

Excellent trivia!

did you mean Seth Rogen? I think Seth MacFarlane is a man of many talents.

no, I mean MacFarlane -- my feelings about Family Guy are well-documented here.

they all sound like top 10 hits to me, except for Shine a Light on Love by Lou Reed. Maybe add Dr Hook and L&M?

Lou Reed, Beach Boys and Al Green. In '73 we'd just moved from Sacto out to the SIerra foothills, and the only rock station I could get with any consistency was KFRC (the Big 610), so I heard a whole lot of the Top 40 that year. And those are the three songs I don't recall hearing much if at all.
Btw, I'm really bummed to say I missed this set in its entirety. Spent most of the day making "arrangements". Big drag, but gotta do it. (If any of you hadn't heard, my mother-in-law passed away on Wednesday. We're sad, but it's also a blessing. She will be missed, cantankerous broad that she was.)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone, both here and those that posted on my FB page. We are indeed finding some good, funny, uplifting things coming out of the experience, so it's not 100% bummer.
And I was happy to find that the second set replayed this morning was this '73 one--so I lounged with a cuppa cawffee and listened to it front to back. Indeed, a good 'un. And I too missed the horns on the Stevie tune--I never realized there were two mixes released. Man, he was hot in those days--that four-album run from Inner Visions (or was Talking Book out first?) thru Songs in the Key of Life was truly epic.
