Carry on, My Wayward Katrina.

I'd love to hear Green Day cover this, actually.

and when he kissed a child with AIDS in San Francisco

had he kissed a full-grown man with AIDS in San Francisco, I would have tattooed his face on my ass.

Indeed. As sweet as that gesture seemed to many, it inadvertently perpetuated the idea that children with AIDS are innocent victims, while adults (especially gay men) somehow deserve what they get. (Oh, and we won't talk about priests with AIDS.)  Add to this the shameful insistence by the Church in third-world countries that condom use is a sin -- how many will die of AIDS due to that little pronouncement?

OK, I'll calm down now...

Apparently someone's selling on eBay a painting of Terri Schiavo and Johnny Cochran meeting at heaven's gate.  Lawd have mercy.

First time in ages. Dave's soliciting suggestions via email.  Apparently he's unearthed the demo version of "Telstar".

are you sure that's her? Because when I first heard it, I thought, "who's that singing? -- it's not Patti Lupone (or Julie Covington, for that matter -- and thankfully not Madonna!)"

if it's not, it's someone who has spent an awful lot of time studying patti's style. it sounded just like her to me.

This seems to be standard practice now -- they're doing My Fair Lady in San Jose, and they're running commercials with Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison singing.

Ding Dong the Pope is Dead! No more funny hat on his head.

Ditto, Mr "Guest", whoever you are.

I always hate situations like this because even people who normally would be anti-Pope tend to go all gooey and don't-speak-ill-of-the-dead-y.
But as an EX-Catholic I have no qualms saying that the Church is a corporation run by some sad, old, closeted, hypocritical, misogynistic men. And I have absolutely no hope that the next pope will be better -- indeed he'll be far worse (and more dangerous) because he'll be younger and more techno-savvy.  God(dess) help us all.

KFOG's 10@10 / Half Marathon
« on: April 02, 2005, 11:06:16 AM »
So I awoke at 7:45, in time for the last half of 1978. When Dave announced that '92 was next I switched over to Oldies 1510 and came back about 45 mins later to hear that 1987 was next. So I switched back to Oldies again. 45 mins further on, I was lucky enough to catch 1970, which turned out to be the last set. Which means they must've played 1980 at around 6:30.

Why run endless promos about how "the marathon now starts at 7 for all you sleepyheads", and then screw up 3 weeks in a row?

But belated BOS for "the looong version" of "Somebody's Been Sleeping".
