take the listener survey they're promoting for the next few days. Interesting -- they want to know (among other things) if you'd pay for a non-commercial stream and also give choices for proposed sub-channels (all-"classics", all-blues, all 10@10, etc).

...Deadheads to Channel 9; KQED is showing The Grateful Dead Movie tonite for Pledge Month.

But meanwhile over on KTEH, they're doing one of those old-school soul spectaculars, and I got sucked in.  Impressively, they had a full orchestra (no singing to cheezy backing tracks for these folks), so there was a real flautist for "Everybody Plays the Fool" with Cuba Gooding SENIOR, and real strings for "Smiling Faces Sometimes".  Sadly, Rufus with some babe trying to do a Chaka imitation on "Tell Me Somethin' Good" was just not the same.  Unanswered question of the night: How many different "Peaches" has "Herb" gone thru in the last 40 years? But 1979 Pazz & Jop Winner "Reunited" sounded mighty fine, hey hey. And the occasional vintage clips of Stevie, Gladys and others too expensive to appear live were groovy, especially the one of a very young Al Green.  Usher, eat yer heart out!

And Ray Parker Jr is yet to come!

KFOG just played their song, "Chick-a-boom-boom-boom" (no relation to Daddy DewDrop).  Sounds to my ears like a lame retread of US3 from a decade ago. Lots of scratching -- bet the older demos will be writing to complain.

KFOG's 10@10 / Quote of the Week
« on: March 04, 2005, 07:42:45 AM »
A Foghead called the Morning show to request "Not-So-Sweet Martha Lorraine" by Country Joe & the Fish. She told Dave, "you never play that one on 10@10".  Dave said he HAD played it, last year (?? anyone remember hearing that?) and then he said:

"We don't play songs over and over again on 10@10"

!?!

Guess FYC doesn't count...

Stream of Consciousness / "Your Weekend KFOG" changes
« on: March 04, 2005, 07:24:29 AM »
For those who don't get the "KFOG email", they're tweaking the weekend sked. Acoustic Sunrise will run from 7am until noon (preceded by the World Music Hour at 6am!) and Rosalie will come back for "Acoustic Sunset" from 6 to 8pm. The Sunday Nite Jam is now on from 9 to 11 (guess that means it's popular), followed by House of Blues at 11. Wonder if the Joel Selvin/Little Steven tandem on the Bone was having an effect on KFOG. Presumably HOB and Selvin attract a similar demo; now I know I'll be listening to thew Bone from 9pm on.

due to the usual Thursday no-streaming issue. So no chance to compare Dave's '78 set with Bob's.  But Tommy Castro will be playing live on KFOG between 8 & 8:30 if yer interested.

Stream of Consciousness / MJ on Trial
« on: March 02, 2005, 03:57:12 PM »
Surely we ought to have a thread for this, no?

Today's juicy tidbit:

"A Las Vegas public relations specialist who briefly worked for Michael Jackson gave damaging testimony against the pop star Wednesday, suggesting his associates arranged a smear campaign against the family who would ultimately accuse him of molestation.

Ann Marie Kite said she was told by a Jackson lawyer that they would portray the mother of a boy as a 'crack whore' in the media."

So, MJ molested Eric Cartman? Dude! Sweet!

they play it a LOT.  Is this considered "emo"? I find his delivery just a tad precious.

March comes in like the Sixties! Except in NYC where I understand it's coming in like a (white) lion.  Gaz, hope you're dry & warm...  a '67 set will surely help. A Hazy Shade of Winter, indeed!
