Fred Flintstone to coach Raiders:

Yabba dabba doo!

WIIIIIILLLLLLLMMMMAAAAA!!!

Dunno how many of you have the new MLB channel on your cable, but Bob Costas has signed a multi-year deal with them -- it's "cable-exclusive", so he can't do his HBO and (occasional) CNN stints any more.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i13737d33d3dd0ebe706a74407fa25198

I'm not sure how well signings like this worked out for NFL Network, but Costas does love baseball.

So A-Rod now admits his 'roid use, and is very very sorry.  Yeah, right.  And no big surprise.

If a superstar wants to impress me with his sincerity, he should out himself, not wait for some reporter to find out first.

C'mon Albert, show 'em how it should be done!

As a Yankee-hater, I'm enjoying this thing immensely; but my civil libertarian side wonders why these supposedly confidential test results are suddenly OK to make public. And of course, the reporter who broke the story has a book coming out. A book about... A-Rod.

Good point about these sudden revelations. I was under the impression that the agreement between the players union and MLB was that results would be confidential. I would expect Don Fehr or whoever's running the union right now to be raising a stink shortly.
Let's get right to it.

And yet doesn't know just what he took?  There's a sub-story there.

Now they're charging Tejada with lying to Congress about--what else?--taking steriods.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/02/10/national/w104214S69.DTL&tsp=1

But a plea bargain has already been reached--anyone care to bet whether he'll do any time? I'm thinking not.

great comment underneath that story: "So lying to Congress about steroid abuse is much worse than lying about Iraq WMD's, or illegal firing of US Attorneys? Glad we cleared that one up."

You can't lie to the Government but the Government could lie to you. Basically that is it.

Here's a bombshell: Roberto Alomar being sued by an ex-girlfriend for exposing her to AIDS:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/02/11/sports/s111832S51.DTL&tsp=1

I recall Gaz saying there were rumors about his sexuality in NYC when he was with the Mets, but jeez.  Also, he claims to have been raped by 2 men when he was a teenager.
