Pat the Bat gets to stay in SF another year. Let's hope he hits more like he did during the regular season than he did in the Series.

As Paul Harvey used to say, "here's the other side of the story":  Burrell, without an agent, accepted Sabean's well-below-market offer (for a veteran of Burrell's tenure) of $1 mil because he really wanted to stay with the Giants. Full stop. No testing the market, no waiting to see who else came nibbling. Just "One million? OK, I'll take it." Done.  This just doesn't happen anymore. Assuming there's nothing further to this story, he probably just earned himself a whole raft of fans among the Giants faithful, poor WS stats or no. Me included.

Gaz and I would both certainly say "he had us at 'hello' "  ;)

Holy flaming mother of Gaz! Did you read the last couple grafs of that story??  Pat Burrelll... is... THE MACHINE !?!  The mind reels.

So the NHL "Winter Classic" has been delayed to an evening start (from 1PM Eastern) due to too-warm weather. And NBC is filling the originally scheduled airtime with... abbreviated versions of previous Winter Classics? Seriously? Jeezus. Zzzzzzzzzzzz...

Wait a minute -- the Sharks are playing tonite? I thought nobody else was supposed to play on New Years Day in order to make the Winter Classic "special". That's bad scheduling, NHL.

Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven elected to Baseball HoF; McGwire and Palmiero don't make the cut.

I totally forgot about the playoff games today, and was pretty surprised to find Seattle beat New Orleans!  Pretty strange stuff!

As I said on FB, I'd like to thank the Packers for sparing us a Michael Vick Super Bowl this year.

Meanwhile, the Sharks extend their LOSING STREAK to 4 games. Jeezus, guys.

Comment of the day, from one of AL's FB-friends: "Someone needs to give the Patriots a Snickers, 'cause they played like Betty White"

Brian Wilson's WTF appearance on Lopez:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/giants/detail?entry_id=81971&tsp=1
Ha, nice sea captain outfit. And be sure to see the game he and George Lopez play starting at 6:50 mark. They each have a banana hanging on string from their belt and must use it to hit two oranges into a circle. (Didn't Mom say not to play with your food?!)

thanks for posting this Mike. I like Brian Wilson's weirdness, but wouldn't want to subscribe to cable or sit through a George Lopez show to watch it.  :)

hmm, quite the racy, silly and sophomoric dialog with all that "release" "balls" "seamen" stuff being mentioned.  oh well, as long as he throws the heat, he can do whatever he wants.

The TV spots for the new Jason Statham flick The Mechanic appeal to young meatheads by screaming "there's no football this weekend" -- except the Pro Bowl is today.  [insert snarky comment here.]

"Sweet Lou" Piniella joining the Giants' front office!  No dirt to kick around there, unfortunately.
