Barry Scott just played an early-'70s cover of Cymarron's "Rings" by none other than Lobo.  He didn't improve on the unjustly forgotten hit.

Yes! never understood why he covered it (or why they released it as a single).  There's also a country version that switched out "James taylor on the stereo" for Merle Haggard or Hank Williams, iirc.  And of course it was written by Alex harvey of "Delta Dawn" fame

The back-to-back "Close Encounters" versions were entertaining, though I wouldn't want a steady diet of either.

Vivid memories of the Thunderbird, the bar my biological father would take me to 1978-80: "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" and "Baby Come Back" were jukebox staples there.  I can almost smell the sawdust on the shuffleboard-like upright game.

BTW, since AT40 didn't debut in NYC until the spring of '71, it would seem this is a show I've never heard before.  And -- BONUS! --  Casey was featuring a cut from the #1 LP each week back then, so we'll get George dissing the Pope on "Awaiting on You All". Nice.
